Engineering Manager - Data Operations Job Location:  Remote At Stand Together, we believe in empowering individuals and communities to drive transformative change. The Enterprise Data & Information (EDI) team is crucial to this mission, enabling data-driven insights that support our organization and the broader Community. As the Engineering Manager, Data Ops, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the data infrastructure that supports the organization’s data pipelines, ETL processes, and integrations. This role ensures that our data systems operate efficiently, are highly available, and meet the evolving needs of the organization. You will collaborate with the Data Refinery, Data Products, and Cloud teams to create a reliable, scalable, and secure data environment that drives business value. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead data operations transformation while aligning with Stand Together’s vision of societal impact. 

Your Responsibilities Include

  • Lead & Mentor the Data Ops Team: Manage and mentor a team of data engineers responsible for data pipelines, integrations, and infrastructure, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration. Ensure that your team is aligned with Stand Together’s mission and values. 
  • Data Pipeline Management: Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of data pipelines, ensuring data reliability, quality, and scalability across the organization. Identify inefficiencies and key areas for optimization to improve performance, scalability, and usability. 
  • Data Infrastructure Optimization: Work closely with the Cloud team to optimize data infrastructure, including provisioning cloud resources, scaling, and monitoring data platforms for performance. 
  • Monitoring & Alerting: Develop robust monitoring and alerting systems for data pipelines and infrastructure, addressing issues before they impact the business. 
  • Automation & CI/CD: Implement automation strategies to streamline data operations, including CI/CD pipelines for data workflows and infrastructure as code. 
  • Collaboration: Partner with the Data Refinery and Data Products teams to ensure that the data infrastructure supports the creation of high-quality, consumable datasets and data products. 
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure that all data operations comply with security policies, data governance, and privacy regulations. 
  • Process Improvement: Continuously improve the processes for managing, monitoring, and scaling data pipelines and infrastructure. 
  • Stakeholder Management: Communicate with business stakeholders to understand their data needs, and work with cross-functional teams to deliver data solutions that meet organizational goals. 

Skills You Bring to the Organization

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data infrastructure, engineering management or a similar role. 
  • Proven experience managing or leading data engineering or operations teams. 
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native data technologies. 
  • Expertise in building and managing data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, and data integration processes. 
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Kubernetes). 
  • Proficiency in modern data tools and frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, DBT, Spark, Kafka). 
  • Expertise in SQL, Python, and scripting for automating data workflows. 
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, data lakes, and distributed data architecture. 
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus) and setting up proactive alerting systems. 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. 
  • Strong problem-solving ability with attention to detail and a focus on quality while delivering against strategic goals. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
