Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose:

The VP, Metadata Management & Data Sourcing leader will report to the SVP, Chief Data Officer and will be responsible for creating and maintaining a central catalog of our data assets allowing SYF to know what data we have, what it means, where it is located, how it got there, what’s using it, and how it moves throughout the architecture. The creation of metadata and data sourcing shared services will result in an overall implementation of the Data Sourcing (Metadata Management) Process within the Synchrony Financial Chief Data Office that enables analytics and business decisions based on data that is clearly defined as it flows into, within, and out of Synchrony. These capabilities not only enable analytics but act as controls of risk, satisfying regulatory requirements

This individual will be responsible for refining and executing firm-wide information and data management controls for platforms that store Synchrony structured and unstructured information (on-premise/public cloud) environments. This role is a key enabler of our analytic efforts by making it easier to search for, find and understand the data we have and how it flows within the organization by proactively identifying what data is being created and consumed by analysts to identify sets of data to curate as a shared data asset.

Our Way of Working

We’re proud to offer you choice and flexibility. At Synchrony, our way of working allows you to have the option to work from home, near one of our Hubs or come into one of our offices. Occasionally you may be required to commute to our nearest office for in person engagement activities such as business or team meetings, training and culture events.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships with key business partners to drive transparency in the current state of data sourcing, the intended purpose of data and its impact to the business

  • Develop and continuously evolve data sourcing strategies that drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for Synchrony by designing a comprehensive approach for data definitions, data lineage, and data sharing; based on industry trends, emerging solutions, new insights and changing customer and business needs.

  • Partner with data users and data architecture teams to influence data sourcing and architecture as we move to new environments, in light of current challenges.

  • Champion the governance framework to spearhead defining and implementing processes and procedures for data sourcing across Synchrony.

  • Proactively analyze our metadata to identify duplicative sets of data, seeking opportunities to reduce our data footprint and to optimize analytics by working with Technology and Analytic teams to eliminate redundant or out of sync versions of data on-prem and in SYFs public cloud.

  • Manage a portfolio of standards, procedures, processes and controls that mitigate risks associated with knowing what data exists, how data is defined, where it is stored and how it flows through the environment.

  • Proactively define and manage the backlog of work associated with Data Sourcing activities and outcomes using SAFE Agile techniques.

  • Implement and configure workflows and data orchestration processes in support of Information and Data Management controls leveraging active metadata management capabilities within Synchrony’s data catalog and data control environments (Collibra / Ab Initio/Service Now).

  • Use automation to identify and catalog what data we have, what it means and how it got to its storage location.

  • Design and implement data sourcing dashboards and scorecards to track and monitor data management controls inclusive of Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Sourcing, Information Lifecycle Management, Privacy and Data Minimization controls.

  • Act as a mentor and coach to data stewards, data quality analysts and information architects for the effective adoption and use of data sourcing controls.

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 9 years of Data Management & Analytics OR in lieu of a Degree, High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 13 years of hands on, mixed experience in technology and process excellence.
