AI Software Engineer Intern

Role Overview

Rapid7 is seeking talented software engineering students with an interest in AI and machine learning (ML) to join our newly formed AI Centre of Excellence in Belfast for their placement year. As an AI Engineering Intern at Rapid7 you will:

• Have the opportunity to learn how to deploy and scale AI/ML solutions in production

• Gain cloud experience handling AI/ML services in AWS with tools like Sagemaker

• Design APIs for AI/ML models, including but not limited to Large Language Models (LLMs)

• Be a first class stakeholder in all parts of the development process

• Work towards developing a deep understanding of our products in order to best support our customers

• Collaborate and engage with teams like UX and Product Management to understand customer needs

Successful candidates will be:

• Currently enrolled at one of our partner Universities and in your 2nd year studying Computer Science,  Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline displaying a strong academic record and seeking a 12 month placement opportunity (June 2025 - End of May 2026)

• Currently residing in Northern Ireland and have the Right to Work within the UK

• Interested in AI/ML and maybe as a bonus have used AI/ML already in a personal capacity

• Familiar with software development, e.g. Python, Git

• Excited by technology, curious and eager to learn new AI/ML technologies and deployment tools

• An excellent problem solver with a can-do attitude and positivity

• Able to display strong communication skills both within the team and cross-functionally

• A collaborative team player who has the ability to partner with others and drive toward solutions

• You will have weekly 1:1’s with your manager and have a dedicated team mentor throughout your placement

• We are a hybrid working model at Rapid7 however, we encourage our students to be in the office as much as possible to help their development and build their network. Every team varies on working hours/model but you will be able to discuss this with your manager.
