The Position

As a Data Scientist Intern you will join the data science cluster in the Roche Informatics Data and Analytics Chapter (DnA). You will be part of one or several multi-disciplinary agile teams where you’ll actively shape the future of healthcare by using data science methods and principles to generate deeper insights from a great variety of data sources. 

The Opportunity:

  • Build and implement machine learning models, with a primary focus on regression techniques like gradient boosting, random forest, and support vector regression.

  • Clean, preprocess, and transform data from various sources to ensure data quality and consistency, and perform statistical analysis to validate machine learning models.

  • Work collaboratively within global agile teams to understand project requirements, contribute to data-driven healthcare solutions, and utilize data visualization tools for effective communication of insights.

  • Use Python and SQL to query, manipulate, and analyze large datasets, and engage in data preparation, feature engineering, model evaluation, and experiment design to test model performance.

  • Maintain organized documentation, contribute to research and development of predictive models, and seek opportunities for personal and professional growth while learning from experienced data scientists.

Who you are:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master or PhD candidate in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong foundation in machine learning techniques, including gradient boosting and random forests, with expertise in Python for model development. Familiarity with other languages/tools like R is a plus.

  • Proficient in SQL for querying large datasets, with experience in using platforms like Snowflake, and skilled in data analysis and visualization tools such as Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib, or Seaborn.

  • Ability to perform statistical analysis, proven understanding of the statistical methodology behind machine learning models, and capable of providing valuable insights through advanced analytical solutions.

  • Excellent data storytelling and visualization skills for communicating results to non-technical audiences, with experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare industry preferred.

  • Good knowledge of regulatory aspects related to machine learning in healthcare, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a goal-oriented mentality, and proficiency in English.

Additional Information:

Location: Hybrid, Based in Mississauga (minimum 3 days in the office)

Hours: full-time (35 hours per week)

Length: This position is a minimum 6-month work term (full-time).

This position is not eligible for relocation support.
