Senior Full Stack Engineer - Size & Fit / Virtual Fitting Room (Zurich)

Finding clothes that fit is a challenging topic in the e-commerce fashion industry. As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Size and Fit Team, you will be part of a team working on an exciting Virtual Fitting Room solution to provide customers with a convenient and accurate experience for online clothes shopping. Ultimately, you will enable personalized size and fit experiences for customers to find the right fit the first time, return less and reduce carbon emissions. 

The Size and Fit team works across Zurich and Berlin locations in a multidisciplinary collaboration between applied scientists, engineers, product managers, product designers and business teams. WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

• Design, build and improve large-scale software solutions for data products.
• Be part of the full software development cycle: design, implement, deploy and maintain important software solutions that impact customers.
• You will evaluate and introduce new technologies to the team and together we build exciting customer facing technical innovation.
• You establish trust and technical excellence beyond the team and collaborate with other internal product and technical teams to build scalable systems which integrate into the larger context of Zalando
• You continuously improve the performance of our systems, and your skill set as a software engineer and share knowledge with your colleagues.

 WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Proven experience in all parts of the software development life cycle, including building, testing, deploying, and operating in production environments.
• Strong proficiency in both frontend and backend technologies, including modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular) and backend languages such as Python (preferred), Go, or Java.
• Expertise in developing and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs, with knowledge of microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and containerization technologies, particularly Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks for both frontend and backend systems.
• Experience with backend systems that manage and process large volumes of data, and understanding of performance optimization techniques.
• While not essential, an understanding of 3D meshes/data or experience with 3D visualization libraries is a plus.
• Previous work involving customer data, compliance, and GDPR is advantageous.
• Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

You will join our multidisciplinary Zurich & Berlin-based Size and Fit Team, composed of machine learning / deep learning researchers, software engineers, and full stack developers from 20 different nationalities. We provide recommendations and predictions on customer size and fit choices and conduct focused experiments using emerging technologies to solve the challenges.

You will take on this complex and important topic working side by side with our Product Specialists.
