About the Role & Team

On the Data Insights & Analytics team, our mission is to develop high-quality and sustainable data-driven solutions to improve profitability, growth and the user experience. As a Manager, Analytics Engineering, you’ll flex both of your strategic and tactical skill sets working as a team player alongside all of the Data Teams as well as numerous key business stakeholders to help them leverage data to track performance, make better decisions and ultimately reach their goals. The ideal candidate has strong communications skills, a passion for data, proficiency in problem solving and likely has an interest in professional sports, betting & eSports.

A 'roll up the sleeves' approach is mandatory and a 'get it done' attitude is a must. Specific responsibilities include coordination between the Data Analytics/Science and functional business teams to ensure high quality analytical projects are effectively delivered. Successful candidates will be multi-dimensional 'rising-stars' who are able to employ complex problem solving skills, and are able to communicate these succinctly to fellow team members and an enterprise stakeholder audience.

About the Work

As a key member of the Data, Insights & Analytics leadership team you will:

  • Provide guidance on describing and designing enterprise level presentation layer data sets, integrating data sources and evaluating performance using statistical methods and data modeling best practices
  • Liaise with stakeholders to identify data driven projects and opportunities and data engineers to build data pipelines and solve related issues.
  • Manage Airflow tasks and scheduling.
  • Assist & mentor team members in solving data issues, analyses and modeling.
  • Identify opportunities to apply data modeling and advanced analytics techniques to drive insights.
  • Oversee team's output and analysis to ensure data and insights shared are accurate and informative.
  • Provide support on hiring, onboarding and continued professional development including but not limited to mentoring Data Analysts and Analytics Engineers
  • Help evangelize fellow team members and business stakeholders on how to become self-serving in all areas of data analytics, inclusive of data queries and building their own data visualizations
  • Help to define and improve our internal standards for style, maintainability, best practices, and new tools and methodologies for our analytics infrastructure
  • Coach and develop a team of Analytics Engineers to maximize strengths and develop strong, collaborative partnerships within the Data Team and across business functions
  • Review accuracy of all data, results, and conclusions of the team, coaching team members to reach a high data standard

About You

  • University degree in Computer Science, Business, Engineering or other STEM field.
  • 4+ years of experience in analytics, preferably at a digital company and ideally some of which was in a leadership capacity
  • A fundamental grasp of Kimball Dimensional Modelling
  • The ability to liaise with stakeholders and upstream Data Engineers around requirements gathering, well-defined deliverables, and setting appropriate expectations
  • A passion and curiosity for solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal); Ability to take complex data and present it in a clear manner to cross-functional groups
  • Strong Knowledge of relational databases & engineering best practices, (e.g. SQL, DBT, Git, Airflow and CI/CD)
  • Hands-on experience with dbt, including building/deploying models & documentation
  • Experience with modern data exploration & analysis tools such as Looker/Python
  • Attention to detail and desire for end-to-end ownership of deliverables
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and fairly autonomous; comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative with a positive attitude, interest in learning, and strong sense of empathy
  • Familiarity with cloud processing and data storage environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) - an advantage
