Data Scientist (Asset Impact) - Berlin

This job description is for a position at Asset Impact (AI), an impact-driven climate start-up that has been part of GRESB since 2022​.

 

We are looking for a skilled Data Scientist to join our team who loves to work with complex data sources and build robust, state-of-the-art models. This person should embrace a start-up mentality and be excited to take on new challenges as we discover them.

Responsibilities

As a Data Scientist at Asset Impact, you will develop and manage complex data models, support product development, and maintain direct client engagement. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our data offerings remain accurate, impactful, and aligned with our clients’ needs. This role also requires supporting quality assurance (QA) processes and contributing to research initiatives within our AI product development.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Data Modeling: Develop and maintain data science models and algorithms for key industry sectors, such as power, aluminum, and cement, ensuring data accuracy and applicability to client needs. Sectors may vary depending on project requirements.
  • Product Development: Collaborate with the product team to integrate data-driven insights into product features and contribute to roadmap planning.
  • Client Engagement: Serve as a technical resource, addressing client inquiries related to data models and disclosures and ensuring accurate and timely responses.
  • Quality Assurance: Support with QA processes during quarterly data refreshes, ensuring data integrity and reliability across all products.
  • Research and Methodologies: Lead and contribute to research efforts to improve the data modeling methodologies and stay abreast of advancements in data science, including machine learning applications.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation for data models, methodologies, and processes to ensure transparency, reproducibility, and ease of future updates or audits.

Likewise, besides your main focus, you can be involved in other activities such as building company culture, supporting recruitment, liaising with external stakeholders (e.g., financial institutions, research institutions, data providers, etc.), and/or helping our technical efforts.

Requirements

  • Right to work in Germany

 

Required skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Data Science or Engineering) or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in Python and R for data analysis and modeling
  • Expertise in data visualization, statistical analysis, outlier detection, and related standard libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of data cleaning and preparation techniques
  • Experience developing strong and flexible data QA processes
  • Demonstrated ability to approach challenges with creativity and innovative thinking to solve problems related to data modeling.
  • A willingness to continuously learn and apply new techniques
  • English as a working language

 

Preferred skills

  • Interest in sustainability
  • Experience in finance or engineering
  • Experience in professional coding practices such as automated tests, object-oriented and data-centric programming, design patterns (such as SOLID principles), etc.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and NLP
  • History of integrating business needs into design
  • Mentoring of team members
