PeopleCert is looking for a Research Assistant to join the LanguageCert Research team.
The LanguageCert Research team maintains an ongoing research programme which focuses on the development, validation, calibration, and performance analysis of LanguageCert test materials. It undertakes research projects such as concordance studies and benchmarking activities, either independently or in collaboration with Research Centres and Educational Institutions. It also coordinates and supports research projects conducted by external partners. who will support and contribute to the LanguageCert Research team’s work with its ongoing research programme and projects.

As a Research Assistant, your tasks will include the following:

  • Retrieve and clean data from multiple sources to prepare them for statistical analysis.
  • Contribute to the analysis, and interpretation of data using excel as well as statistical software.
  • Regularly monitor and report test form performance.
  • Conduct desk research and literature reviews to support research objectives.
  • Edit and prepare papers for submission.
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams as appropriate (Assessment Development/DMO/ Webcontent/ Quality).
  • Perform administrative tasks related to research activities as needed.
  • Ensure their work and presence is aligned with company’s values: “Quality – Passion – Integrity – Innovation” at all times.

What we look for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Psychology, Mathematics or a relevant field. A Master’s degree would be an asset.
  • Very strong Excel skills with strong overall IT literacy for other Windows Office programs and tools (Word, Outlook, Forms etc.) ECDL Advance level certification is desirable.
  • Experience with statistical analysis packages and programming languages (such as SPSS, R, Python, or Rasch) is an asset.
  • Experience as a researcher, research assistant or data analyst is desired but not essential.
  • Native or excellent command of the English language (C2 level certification is required, LanguageCert C2 LTE or C2 IESOL certificate would be a plus).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

Working on Home Office (HO) Secure English Language Tests (SELTs)

Any person who is engaged by PeopleCert to work on the SELT service must undergo a Background Check (the results of which must be acceptable to PeopleCert and the HO) prior to commencing their SELT duties. All SELT personnel will be required to complete a declaration (provided by PeopleCert) where the existence of any criminal record and/or bankruptcy must be declared.

If working on the SELT service in the UK, background checks will include:

  • A basic or enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Right to Work in the UK check (including nationality, identity and place of residence)
  • HO security check (Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) or Counter Terrorist Check (CTC)
  • Financial background check
  • Employment reference check
  • If working on the SELT service anywhere in the world (outside of the UK) personnel will undergo background checks that are equivalent to those stated for the UK

In addition, if personnel are required to speak to SELT candidates they must be appropriately skilled in English language and, where SELT services are provided anywhere in the world (outside of the UK), the official language of the relevant country.
