Senior AI/ML Engineer 

Our company is a global healthcare leader with a diversified portfolio of innovative medicines, vaccines, and animal health products. The Applied Research & Innovation group is seeking a highly motivated and skilled senior software engineer with profound AI/ML knowledge to support the development, maintenance and optimization of drug discovery and development workflows. The position will involve regular interactions with scientists and other subject matter experts as part of a cross-regional and multidisciplinary network of researchers, computational biologists, cheminformaticians, data engineers, data scientists and software engineers.  

In this role, you will 

• Guide the development, optimization and scaling up of applications across different areas of drug discovery and development 

• Act as a technical lead for one or several software development projects  

• Prototype, test and validate novel scientific solutions: algorithms, machine learning models, applications, pipelines and dashboards 

• Help to establish best practices for AI/ML engineering across teams 

• Explore and evaluate new technologies 

• Coach junior team members  

 

Required Experience and Skills:  

• MSc or PhD degree in computer science or related field  

• At least 10 years of experience in software development 

• At least 5 years of experience in developing complex AI based applications 

• Excellent problem-solving skills and high professional standards with strong ability to prioritize and work under pressure 

• Strong communication skills and ability to simplify and explain complex problems to data scientists and software engineers 

• Excellent programming skills in a subset of the following Python, Java/C++/Rust,  Linux/Unix, SQL and versioning control e.g. Git 

• Basic knowledge of web development and full stack development 

• Solid knowledge and hands-on experience developing machine and deep learning models via Python (Scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow etc) 

• Significant Experience with HPC, cloud computing (AWS) and distributed computing 

• Experience in the creation of data workflows as well as data analysis and interpretation
