Working within the Engineering team, the Test & Prototype Engineer will be responsible for: 

 

  • Designing and building Test equipment to test circuit board assemblies and modules. This will include some mechanical & electronics design, along with some programming and debugging skills in order to create Test equipment to support our production plans. 

 

  • Designing and making 3D printed components to support our Manufacturing and R&D teams. You’ll be operating and maintaining state of the art 3D printers to produce parts while observing safety, production and quality standards. Evaluating designs to ensure they meet quality and design requirements and working closely to support other teams across the business.  

 

  • Building electromechanical subassemblies consisting of mechanical components, printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), motors, cable harnesses, hardware etc. This activity will include testing out designs and updating documentation and work instructions.  

 

  • Other tasks may include programming robotic assembly machines, running tests on products and reporting data, designing and building jigs and fixtures to improve the Production process, training other team members and handing over processes to the Production team, specifying and ordering materials from suppliers, organisation and control of materials and equipment, including servicing and maintenance of light duty machinery. 

 

  • Production goals and deadlines will be in place, and shift working may (from time to time) will be required. All training and equipment needed will be provided.

Requirements

  • An ability to learn and follow instructions and procedures reliably and repeatably  
  • Experience of assembling electro-mechanical products: eg assembling PCBAs and mechanical components together, following work instructions and correct use of tools 
  • Good communication skills. The ability to listen and learn and communicate your ideas with others. 
  • Good team working skills – and the ability to work individually  
  • Familiarity with hand tools and test equipment and working in and around light-duty manufacturing equipment 
  • Strong culture of safety and quality  
  • Level 3 BTEC in an engineering discipline with minimum 2 years experience  
  • A good knowledge of ESD and associated precautions 
  • IPC-610 Level 2/3 training is advantageous  
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD design software, ideally Solidworks, Fusion 360 etc 
  • Some programming experience, eg Arduino, Python etc will be useful 
  • Some knowledge of robotics and machine programming would be advantageous
