LAKELAND UNIVERSITY, an independent liberal arts institution located in east central Wisconsin, invites applications from a diverse group of qualified candidates for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, to begin August 2025. Lakeland seeks a candidate committed to serving a diverse student community with varied experience and ability levels. The candidate will teach a range of introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses within the mathematics, statistics, and data science programs, and as well as general education programs as needed. The coordination and supervision of student Co-Op and internships in mathematics and/or data science is also expected, as the faculty member serves as a liaison between the student and employer.


This is a full-time, renewable, tenure-track position with a 24-credit teaching load expectation and nine-month contract. A doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in mathematics, statistics, or data science is required for the rank of assistant professor and for tenure. The ideal candidate will have taught at the undergraduate level and have experience working with underprepared mathematics students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Teach 24 credits per academic year, with 50% of the annual load comprised of introductory mathematics courses (advanced algebra, quantitative reasoning, probability and statistics, pre-calculus), and the remainder divided between undergraduate courses in mathematics, data science, and the interdisciplinary studies core.
  • Advise students as assigned.
  • Coordinate and supervisor student internship and/or cooperative education experiences appropriate for mathematics and data science majors.
  • Work with the division chair and deans to identify appropriate adjunct instructors for the mathematics and data sciences programs.
  • Teach in both traditional and hybrid learning environments.
  • Participate in educational assessment activities.
  • Hold regular office hours on a weekly basis.
  • Respond in a timely manner to calls or emails from students, colleagues, or supervisors.
  • Participate in institutional service opportunities as assigned.
  • Use university technology as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Science, is required for the rank of assistant professor; applicants with a relevant M.S. would be examined at the rank of instructor.
  • Successful mathematics/statistics teaching experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Experience with Python and R programming languages, as well as AI technologies, is also preferred.

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and laboratory work environment
