The Learning Engineering Institute at Arizona State University (ASU) seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scholar to join our team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in conducting research within university classrooms, focusing on the writing process and the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as AI and large language models to enhance writing instruction and elevate student learning outcomes.

The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will join a dynamic, collaborative environment committed to leveraging innovative technologies and research methodologies to transform learning experiences and drive educational advancement. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in educational technology and learning sciences while making a tangible impact on student learning outcomes.

Essential Duties

- Collaborate on ongoing educational research projects, implementing experimental studies in diverse educational settings, and working closely with educators and students.

- Design and execute experiments related to literacy, specifically writing and text comprehension, while integrating educational technologies (e.g., generative AI, intelligent tutoring systems) for enhanced learning experiences.

- Conduct usability and feasibility testing of educational technology implementations and analyze experimental findings.

- Engage in large-scale research initiatives focused on digital learning platforms and using learning analytics to investigate learning outcomes, predict learning patterns, and improve learning at scale.

- Utilize A/B/n experimental design, advanced statistical methodologies, learning analytics, and tools like R, Python, SPSS, and similar to analyze large-scale data and draw actionable insights to inform future iteration.

- Investigate factors pertaining to writing knowledge and pedagogy, incorporating artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing features.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

- Completed Ph.D. in Education, Learning Sciences, Educational Technology, Psychology, Computer Science, or a related field by the time of appointment.

- Demonstrated expertise in educational research design, implementation, and analysis within educational settings.

- Advanced knowledge of the writing process and writing pedagogy.

- Proficiency in quantitative research methods and statistical analysis.

- Experience with educational technology implementation and usability testing.

- Strong programming skills in R and/or Python.

- Familiarity with learning analytics, machine learning, and large-scale educational research.

Desired Qualifications:

- Previous experience in conducting A/B/n experimental design and managing databases.

- Understanding of learning engineering processes and iterative design.

- Knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) and its applications in education.

- Track record of disseminating research through technical reports, peer-reviewed journal publications, and conference presentations.

- Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams within a dynamic and innovative research environment.
