Job Description

Location: Remote- Canada

We are a mission-critical part of our customers’ businesses. Having a rock-solid infrastructure that they can trust and rely upon is critical to both our success and their success. Our infrastructure team is core to enabling our engineering teams to deliver that top-notch quality of service. We are looking for a Lead level Infrastructure engineer to join this team. This person will help set & lead the technical vision for our infrastructure, observability, site reliability, and software release pipeline. We are looking for someone with the passion to evangelize DevOps principles, drive collaboration, mentor other engineers, and roll up their sleeves and write some code.

What You Will Do:

  • Be a thought leader – help drive technical direction
  • Build relationships – show our engineers the value of DevOps thinking & culture
  • Build our platform – create the tools and workflows that make our engineering teams more productive and able to own their work all the way through to production
  • Implement best practices regarding developing, delivering, operating and maintaining services
  • Maintain regular and reliable work attendance.

  • GitHub, Github Actions, Github Packages
  • Node.js, Java, Python, Postgres, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, ElasticSearch, Event Store

 

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience within an infrastructure team
  • Strong experience designing and maintaining large-scale AWS environments focusing on high availability, reliability, and security.
  • Understanding of AWS Well-Architected Framework
  • In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, networking protocols, and cloud-native networking.
  • Proficiency with modern infrastructure management tools and comfort at the command line
  • Experience with multiple tools in the modern DevOps toolkit, infrastructure management tools, and automation
  • Experience designing, deploying, and supporting a true cloud-native system
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, make pragmatic decisions, and adapt to changing business needs
  • Proven ability to provide tactical, and technical leadership
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership and foster collaboration within teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – the ability to build and maintain trust networks with your peers
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts and plans to multiple audiences of varying technical capacity
  • Demonstrated project development and leadership skills, focus on results.
  • Strong presentation skills, with experience conducting workshops or training sessions.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities, particularly in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A passion for continuous improvement, focusing on results that positively impact the business and customer.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience managing large installations for Postgres, MongoDB, or ElasticSearch
  • Experience with time series databases or event sourced systems
  • Passion for data, analytics, or machine learning (help make our systems learn how to better manage and heal themselves)

Additional Information

Other Duties - This role requires being part of an on-call rotation. On-call duty corresponds to being available to respond to critical system issues:  

  • 6pm to 9am (the following day), Monday - Friday.  
  • A full day (24 hours) on weekends and public holidays  

A typical on-call rotation will involve one week shifts approximately every 4-6 weeks.

Base pay is one part of our total compensation package. Pay is established on an individual basis after considering multiple factors such as relevant experience, education, and other qualifications. In addition, we take into account geographical differentials and make sure pay is equitable with our current staff. For this position, our hiring range for base annual pay is estimated to be CAD$150,000 to $165,000, at the time of this posting. 

Performance-based discretionary bonuses and variable pay plans are available for some positions.
