About the team and position

Join the frontline of innovation with Carvana's Marketplaces Strategy & Analytics Team. As a key player in this dynamic team, you'll fuel the growth of Carvana’s auto auction subsidiary, ADESA, by leading a team that dives into complex datasets from diverse sources. Your work will enhance speed, cost, and quality across our nation-wide portfolio. By leveraging our proven strategies and collaborating with our internal network of trailblazers, you'll drive process improvements, attract buyers and sellers, and optimize vehicle inspection and reconditioning processes.

What you’ll be doing

• Build and lead a team focused on analyzing large datasets, utilizing SQL, Snowflake, Python, or similar tools to actively monitor performance and identify efficiency opportunities across various functional areas of the business.
• Build, maintain, and manage dashboards using Tableau or similar to explain/communicate operational performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Surface opportunities to various groups across ADESA and Carvana operations to drive process improvements.
• Collaborate with the Carvana Remarketing, Logistics, ADESA Inspections, and other teams to ensure alignment with Carvana and ADESA’s strategy and leverage our internal analytical capabilities.
• Track operational efficiency, and inventory performance, collaborating with the accounting team to ensure we are on track to achieve our financial goals.
• Regularly update ADESA and Carvana’s senior executive team on auction performance, opportunities, and testing strategy.
• Design and execute A/B tests on change initiatives and optimization opportunities.
• Work closely with Leadership, Product, Engineering, and Operations to assess performance and identify and prioritize opportunities.
• Lead by example for the rest of the team in the above areas.
• Other duties as assigned.

What you should have

• Quantitative undergraduate degree (such as math, finance, computer science, engineering, etc.) with a strong academic record. Masters degree preferred
• At least 5 years of analytics experience with some background in operation analytics. Technical leadership and mentorship are required with direct report leadership and career development being a plus.
• Analytical thinking. Capable of the full scope of data-driven decision-making: diving deep to understand the nuances of individual data points, defining illuminating summary statistics and visualizations, crafting simple yet accurate narratives, and employing all of the foregoing to improve our operations and business.
• Intuitive problem-solving. Understand and think through causal relationships and ripple effects. Confidence in tackling emerging and complex problems
• Technical proficiency. This leadership role will require hands-on mentoring and analysis. Ability to write clean SQL queries and employ visualization tools (e.g. Tableau). Curiosity to continue learning new analytical methods and tools. Familiarity with data pipelines, common mobile and web technologies, and general software development practices.
• Excellence in communication. Ability to collaborate and speak the language of our Creative, Product, Engineering, and Executive teams.
