The graduate Data Science program in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering & Computer Science (ECECS) at the University of New Haven seeks qualified candidates for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level. The academic areas of interest include but are not limited to foundation models, natural language processing, computer vision, AI safety and security, and data engineering. The expected start date is Fall 2024.

The department houses multiple degrees in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Data Science at both the BS and MS levels, and also participates in the PhD program in Engineering and Applied Science. Our Data Science program is one of the fastest growing fields in the college.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or other closely related fields. The degree must be completed before the start date of employment.
• A commitment to teaching excellence, and effective communication skills. Ability to teach hands-on graduate courses in the general areas of Data Science such as artificial intelligence, deep learning, distributed and scalable data engineering, machine learning, and natural language processing. Experience in application areas such social data analytics, healthcare, energy, finance, robotics, or security is desired.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent and interdisciplinary research.
• Commitment to collegiality and teamwork.
• Authorization to work in the U.S.

Expectations

• Effectively teach graduate courses in Data Science.
• Develop a research program that complements existing research activities in the department and college, applies data science, and engages graduate and undergraduate students. Publish scholarly work and write grant proposals to establish funded research. Establish research collaborations with other faculty.
• Provide service at the program, departmental, college and university levels on various working groups and committees. Other duties may include working with corporations to secure industry-sponsored projects and outreach/recruiting.
