We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist to help improve Bolt's geo services.

About us

Bolt is one of the fastest-growing tech companies in Europe and Africa, with over 100 million customers in 50+ countries. We’re a global team of more than 100 nationalities joined on a common mission – to make cities for people, not cars. And we need you to make it happen!

About the role

You will be working in a team focused on improving efficiency and user satisfaction across all geo-related aspects of our services.

Some projects include developing predictive models for accurate Estimated Times of Arrival (ETAs), creating algorithms to recommend optimal pickup points to help riders and drivers connect faster, and analyzing anonymized GPS data to identify key locations like entrances and parking spots to enhance delivery processes.

You’ll be involved in understanding the impact of these initiatives on business metrics and contributing to strategic decisions.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  •  Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Data Analysts, Data Engineers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers, to gain a deep understanding of business needs and create end-to-end technical solutions for them.
  •  Utilizing machine learning techniques including dimensionality reduction, clustering algorithms, rankers, regressors, classifiers, and more (e.g., PCA, k-means, DBSCAN, Spectral Clustering, Learning-to-Rank approaches, gradient boosted trees, neural networks).
  •  Handling the entire lifecycle of a model, from exploratory queries and notebook prototypes to working machine learning pipelines that improve our Geo Services
  •  Rapidly deploying models to production environments using AWS and internal machine learning platforms, leveraging a toolkit that includes Python, Spark, Presto, Docker, SageMaker, and Airflow for efficient data processing and model deployment.
  •  Validating your solutions through rigorous experimentation on millions of users using our dedicated AB testing platform.
  • Engaging in regular knowledge exchange with Data Scientists across all seniority levels, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes learning and innovation.

About you:

  • You have 3 years of experience in Data Science and Machine Learning, ideally in product development within a technology-focused company.
  • You’re skilled in Python programming, leveraging key libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, with practical experience in statistical hypothesis testing.
  • You have a proactive mindset, a willingness to take initiative and work with little supervision, and enthusiasm for collaborating with different roles in product, analytics, and engineering to identify problems, explore trends, and discover growth opportunities.
  • You exhibit well-coordinated teamwork and good communication skills in English, both verbal and written, enabling clear collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
  • You have some hands-on experience in building ML systems from end to end, including testing, monitoring, scaling, and measuring the impact.
  • You will get extra credits for familiarity with any cloud systems and for experience with mapping-related aspects and tools.

Experience is great, but what we really look for is drive, intelligence, and integrity. So even if you don’t tick every box, please consider applying!
