Program Experience
The 2025 NBA Summer Internship is a 10-week program that runs from June 9 – August 15, 2025. The program gives participants the opportunity to learn about basketball, develop critical career skills and contribute to meaningful projects across a range of departments in the NBA and its affiliate leagues (WNBA, NBA G League, NBA 2K League). In addition to on-the-job experience, interns are invited to participate in a broad array of professional development programs, community and social experiences.
The program prioritizes rising seniors, with limited exceptions for graduate students, based on business need.
Interns should reflect excellent academic standing and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Additionally, we look for candidates who possess leadership skills as demonstrated through relevant extracurricular or community activities.

Role Overview
Selected interns will support data collection and analysis across one of the following areas: content, media, fan engagement, digital products, and basketball-related initiatives.
Past interns have worked across a range of departments including the Basketball Strategy and Analytics team, which is responsible for data collection, analysis and technology pertaining to all on-court activities; or the Data Strategy & Analytics team, which delivers data platforms and products to key stakeholders across the NBA business operations, including fan, marketing, and financial data, to help inform business decisions.

Major Responsibilities
May include, but not limited to:

Coordinating with data engineers, data analysts, and BI developers on end-to-end model development and deployment to the wider NBA business infrastructure.

Designing statistical analysis and visualizations that relate to league structure, rule changes, game play, improvements to the competition format, and implementation of technologies to improve player health, game integrity, and fan engagement across all NBA properties, including the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League, and NBA 2K League.

Performing various cross-departmental quantitative analyses regarding on-court activities and trends, which are used to evaluate the NBA’s core product.

Working with data governance managers to ensure NBA data meets all safety and privacy requirements.

Collaborating with digital content and reporting teams to assess NBA content performance across social and digital platforms, shaping key strategic decisions.

Contributing to a cross-functional strategy and operations project in collaboration with the Basketball Technology & Innovation team.

Researching potential applications of advanced tools and technologies to help expand our technical and analytical offerings.

Updating CRM system with relevant sports tech-related news and contacts.

Publishing and maintaining customized interactive reports and dashboards using Tableau Server.
Required Education & Professional Experience

Enrolled in an undergraduate program and entering Senior year in the academic year following the internship

Preferred Skills & Kowledge Attributes

Experience or coursework with SQL, Python, or R

Preferred experience with Snowflake tools and DBT

Good knowledge of statistics and best practices in model development.

Exposure or experience using Tableau Desktop, including calculations, visualizations, and knowledge of the practices and techniques of dashboard development a plus

Skilled presenter and facilitator

Strong project management skills

Strong proficiency in drafting documents and creating presentations; Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Word, Excel)

Solid investment of sports industry and the game of basketball

High attention to detail, design, and innovation
Salary Range: $25 per hour
