The Difference You Will Make:

The People Analytics team is looking for an experienced Data Engineer to support some of our key initiatives, such as building data pipelines and warehouses for Recruiting and people data. The role is highly cross-functional, and you will work with Talent Leaders, Legal, Diversity and Belonging, and other core people-oriented teams. We need a Data Engineer with a strong track record of building best-in-class data pipelines and warehouses.

A Typical Day: 

  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders to help understand data- and people-related business problems
  • Utilize appropriate Data Engineering approaches to build data pipelines and tables from systems such as Workday, Greenhouse, and other data sources
  • Support team members in leveraging data for reporting, dashboard development, and other client-facing use-cases
  • Align on priorities and work from a roadmap, ensuring you are focusing on the highest-priority projects
  • Exercise traits of adaptability and good judgment to support organizational agility
  • Be a constant learner, active listener, and teacher to advance data engineering, people analytics, and Airbnb

Your Expertise:

  • Must Have:
    • 3+ years of industry experience as a Data Engineer, or closely related field
    • Strong command of the Ubuntu environment, showcasing the ability to navigate, manage, and edit files on AWS instances through SSH.
    • Fluent in Python, demonstrating the ability to interact with data sources such as web APIs, SFTP, and efficiently process intermediate data.
    • Extensive knowledge of  relational database and query authoring (SQL). 
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze large data sets to identify gaps and inconsistencies, provide data insights, interpret complex queries and effectively communicate their insights to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Experience with scalable data pipelines leveraging Airflow scheduler/executor framework.
    • Proficiency in implementing essential database concepts accurately, including primary key, index, nullable fields, and various data types.
    • Strong comfort working cross functionally, with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Good to Have:
    • Experience designing data models for optimal storage and retrieval and to meet critical product and business requirements.
    • Knowledge and proficiency in utilizing Git repositories for effective code base management, version control, and the ability to mentor and support peers.
    • Experience working with relational databases such as Postgres and the ability to assume an administrative role in managing the database.

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
