As a Staff Applied Scientist in the NLP team at Coveo, you will be tasked with building the language technology solutions that power the future of our Search and Personalization products. You’ll play a technical leadership role, helping to influence and guide our ambitious technological vision of bringing the latest advances in the field to a wide range of enterprise clients.

Working alongside a team of Applied Scientists and ML Developers, you will be involved in researching, designing, and building new NLP-based solutions, services, and systems, while continuously improving those already delivering value in production. Here is a glimpse at your responsibilities:

  • Help build our team's expertise in developing and optimizing the latest Transformer-based language models, applying them to real business use cases and serving them in real-time to thousands of users reliably.
  • Play a technical expert role in designing and building modern language-based AI solutions. Data, Models, Evaluation Strategies, Production Constraints, User Experience: These are all things we care about every day!
  • Work hand-in-hand with our ML Platform team to find ways to accelerate research and innovation cycles via the right infrastructure, tools and techniques.
  • Be a mentor to your teammates: Help them hone their skills and support their development as applied scientists.
  • Working with the other ML group leaders, help define and put in place the right R&D processes so that we work efficiently as a group, continuing to foster our culture of Applied Science excellence.
  • Help produce content to promote our innovations and achievements externally: technical blogs, presentations, etc.

Here is what will qualify you for the role: 

  • PhD, or MSc with equivalent research experience in a relevant discipline (ML, CS, Physics, Maths)
  • A minimum of 8 years of applied research industry experience building and improving real-world solutions based on modern NLP techniques, including Deep Learning and Large Language Models, at a non-trivial scale.
  • Proven ability to explore and design models, systems and solutions taking into account real-world constraints and user experience, and implement them via production-grade code that is systematically evaluated, well-tested and easy to maintain.

Here is what will make you stand out:

  • Experience in a technical leadership role: Mentoring and coaching, hiring, vision and roadmap design, scientific project planning and management, etc.
  • Work and Research experience (including Publications) into particularly relevant areas to Coveo business: Information Retrieval and Neural Search (including Semantic Search and Question-Answering), Information Extraction, Language Modeling and Optimization, Language and Domain adaptation.
