Job Description

We are currently looking for a student co-op to join our R&D Engineering (Technology & Software Development) Team in our Westborough, MA office. This 6-month assignment will run January - June 2025. This is a full-time opportunity involving 35-40 hours per week at an hourly payrate of $26.75. 

 

As a R&D Engineering Co-Op, you will contribute to our mission by working with the teams responsible for delivering medical products to market. Olympus Surgical Technologies America is a business casual, team-oriented atmosphere. Products are developed and managed from Southborough, but manufacturing is performed at other locations. Therefore, multi-site discussions via conference calls are required for communication and product development. The co-op’s project work will be directed by the Project Engineer and will contribute to the efforts of the cross-functional team. He/she should be expected to also work independently with minimal supervision in the lab, summarizing data, and writing technical reports. He/she will also be involved with the team meeting where input is encouraged.

Job Duties

The co-op will work in the research and development department primarily focused on urology surgical devices. Here, he/she will assist with activities such as collecting R&D data, creating and modifying designs/drawings utilizing SolidWorks, testing prototype devices for functionality, writing technical reports, making presentations and giving weekly team updates. The ideal candidate will have previous work experience in a research lab or the medical device industry. The ability to work as a team and hit the ground running is a major plus.

Job Requirements

Required:

  • Must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited 4-year institution; preferred fields of study include Compter Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering, or related discipline. 
  • Must complete freshman (1st year) before the co-op begins and graduate after the co-op ends. 
  • Must not now or in the future require immigration-related sponsorship.*

  • Basic engineering knowledge, including mathematical skills in Calculus and Physics. 
  • Must possess excellent analytical and organizational skills. 
  • Must be proficient and have practical working knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Must be able to work well within a team and independently at times with limited guidance. 
  • Demonstrated ability to balance academic and extracurricular commitments (i.e. work experience, clubs, volunteer activities, teams, etc.). 

 

Preferred:

  • Must possesses good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Mathematical skills in Statistics, Calculus and Physics, MATLAB, C, Python, Java / Coding experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Arduino, Beagle Board, Raspberry PI is a plus.
  • Previous work experience in the medical device industry is a plus.
  • Experience with a CAD design package, preferably SolidWorks is a plus Hands-On experience in a lab and shop environment is a plus.
