Job Description

The Revenue Management System (RMS) team is responsible for developing and implementing strategies and techniques which optimizes the company's all revenue streams. Therefore, it focuses on the use of predictive analytics and machine learning techniques to address business problems in all functional areas involving revenue forecast, revenue generation, revenue performance and revenue decision support. It also guides different Revenue Management teams through the best practices in terms of forecasting, processes, systems and tools.

Purpose:

The role of Data Scientist is intended to support the development of initiatives and strategies to optimize all Transat revenue streams. The person in this role will be engaged in value added activities that generate practical solutions to complex business problems and drives improvement in business decisions.

Responsabilities:

  • Recognizes business challenges and creates comprehensive analytics solutions.
  • Develops ML models and algorithms to foster innovation in the project, including enhancing model performance
  • Executes advanced statistical analyses and other methodologies to deliver actionable insights, identify patterns, and evaluate performance.
  • Capable of objectively assessing the trade-offs between different algorithms and models.
  • Lead the validation of prototype solutions for forecasting and optimization models in order to optimize revenue.
  • Develop key and valuable metrics for measuring accuracy of ML and IA solutions.
  • Identify key variables affecting model performance and work on fine-tuning models in order to enhance their accuracy and performance.
  • Assist with vetting and cleaning collected data, ensuring data inputs and outputs to the statistical and mathematical models are both valid and consistent.
  • Analyze data with statistical and mathematical methods, interpreting results, and providing written and oral summaries of results.
  • Present results in an intuitive, actionable manner that can be understood by team members and others, regardless of technical expertise.
  • Design model-driven visualization for prototype solutions validation.
  • Develop an automated process validation for all prototype solutions for statistical and mathematical models.
  • Collaborate with peers to share data, findings and insights and to brainstorm corrective actions.
  • Working in an agile environment with globally distributed units and teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate superior analytical ability, conceptual thinking and problem solving.
  • Experience conducting data collection efforts and analysis, including familiarity with statistical and mathematical modeling techniques.
  • Strong programming skills, including in SQL, R, Python or other programming languages.
  • Experience in developing data visualization tool for model building and model diagnosis.
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate, and explain statistical numbers with minimal training.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude, able to take ownership and deliver results;
  • Ability to work independently on projects, with very tight deadlines, under uncertain and changing environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in French and in English*;
  • Masters’s degree in operations research, Computer Science (with background in Statistics), Statistics (with background in programming) or similar quantitative discipline. Mastersʼ degree preferred.
  • 4+ years experiences for Mastersʼ degree candidates and 2+ years experiences for PhDsʼ candidates

*In the course of their duties, the incumbent will be required to communicate and collaborate frequently in English, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, unions or other stakeholders in Quebec as well as in the rest of Canada and internationally.
