Lilly is looking for a Tech Lead for Artificial Intelligence and Automation Solutions for a large scale, multi-year transformation effort that will be reimagining how clinical trials are performed using AI and automation. This role is ideal for a person with a passion for applying innovative AI and automation methodologies and bring them to life in solutions that solve complex, real-world problems.

Research Tech unites science with technology to accelerate the Research and Development of medicines and to deliver therapeutic innovations. The team leverages technology and platforms to streamline scientific experimentation to help Researchers follow the science, to understand the disease and identify potential therapies. They are at the forefront of advanced analytics to enable data driven drug discovery, to innovate so Scientists can rapidly analyze and accelerate the discovery of new medicines.

What You’ll Be Doing:

AI and Automation Project Leadership: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of AI projects, managing resources and prioritizing tasks across internal and external delivery teams.

Executional Excellence: Develop AI and automation focused rapid prototypes and proof-of-concepts to assess technical feasibility of complex business problems though the oversight of small spike teams.

Establish Technical Vision and Direction: Set and communicate a clear technical vision and direction for solution delivery teams to go from proof of concept to fully scaled solutions.

Technical Excellence: Ensure teams are applying DevSecOps and architectural standards.

Technical Translation: Interpret intricate business needs into practical technical specifications, ensuring they line up with project objectives and technical limitations.

Cross-Disciplinary and Organization Collaboration: Effectively engage with colleagues to gather innovative ideas and insights, fostering a collaborative environment that inspires and motivates team members to innovate and explore creative solutions in AI development.

Ethics and Compliance in Development: Adhere to ethical guidelines in AI usage and data handling, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and maintaining the highest standards of data privacy and security.

How You’ll Succeed:

  • Apply your creative and technical skills to develop solutions that integrate AI and full-stack components that address complex challenges and improving application functionality.

  • Combine your knowledge modern cloud native application technologies and AI to create high-quality, innovative software solutions.

  • Remain adaptable and proactive in learning new technologies and techniques in AI and full-stack development to keep up with industry trends and advancements.

  • Understand the data flows and integration patterns that deliver timely access to high quality data.

  • Lead projects and collaborate with teams to deliver comprehensive solutions that meet business goals and user needs.

What You Should Bring:

  • Strong understanding of AI algorithms, data science, machine learning models (supervised, unsupervised), and deep learning techniques.

  • Demonstrated experience with common AI frameworks and technologies (i.e. TensorFlow, PyTorch, LLMs, LangChain, Azure Open AI, and Bedrock).

  • Validated experience with front-end technologies (i.e. HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and frameworks like React or Angular.

  • Proficient in back-end programming languages such as Python, Node.js, or Java.

  • Familiarity with database technologies, both SQL and NoSQL.

  • Experience integrating machine learning models, NLP, and AI technologies into practical applications.

  • Solid understanding of RESTful API design and Development, microservices architecture, and scalable system engineering.

  • Experience in developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for application deployment.

  • Demonstrated experience influencing internal and external partners.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work multi-functionally in a diverse team environment.

  • Capability to lead projects or mentor junior developers.

  • Experience in a regulated industry, such as pharmaceuticals, where understanding of compliance regarding data security and privacy is crucial.

  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional growth in the dynamic fields of AI and full-stack development.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related scientific field.

  • Experience developing and implementing AI and machine learning solutions.

  • 8+ years’ experience leading full stack / multi-disciplinary software development teams (e.g., UI/UX, data, backend/API, system integration)

  • Previous experience working with AWS, Azure AI, or other ML cloud services.

Additional Information:

  • Hybrid position - located in Cork.

  • Travel may be required periodically.
