What Is the Opportunity?

We are looking for an Underwriting Data Analyst to join our team in London. In this role, you will be responsible for manipulating data sets, working with business intelligence on tools like QlikSense, and using the suite of dashboards to generate regular and ad-hoc reports. This will include producing portfolio solutions reports, providing quicker insights into the portfolio than traditional business intelligence processes.

Ideally, we are seeking someone with experience working with management information (MI) as well as familiarity with visualisation tools such as QlikSense or Power BI. While you won’t be building these tools yourself, you will collaborate with business intelligence teams to develop them. A general understanding of underwriting is important, and candidates with experience in a similar role, such as MI Data Analysts, and at least a year of experience in insurance are encouraged to apply.

You will work with BI Specialty (Syndicate) and Retail (Property & Casualty) to analyse and monitor underwriting portfolios to create greater consistency in how the planning lines are monitored. Provide insight analysis to UW to allow them to make more informed decisions about their portfolio and the risks they underwrite.

Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.

This role is eligible for a £1500 new joiner bonus. If you are successfully referred by an employee at Travelers Europe, both you and the person who referred you could be eligible for this bonus.

What Will You Do?

  • Assist with the monitoring of planning line performance to support the execution of underwriting strategies.

  • Assist UW Officers to develop and analyse portfolios from an underwriting perspective utilising MI/BI data and reporting insights from multiple sources - Business Intelligence, Actuarial, Catastrophe Modelling, Rating, Claims, Production and other performance data.

  • Identify trends by understanding and monitoring key performance metrics (e.g. portfolio mix; drivers of underwriting performance; claims performance by cause and by attrition, large and catastrophe components; geography; segment; distribution channel; rate targets, etc.)

  • Assist the UW Officers with analysis to identify and explain portfolio changes, delivering clear insight into account structure and performance. This will aid setting strategy for rate adequacy and pricing.

  • Assist the UW Officers and work collaboratively with UW to support the development of underwriting guidance and best practice.

  • Portfolio CURE process management:

  • Coordinate the process that leads to the Portfolio Collaborative Underwriting Reviews (CUREs). This entails – coordination of scoping meetings, follow-up workshops, CURE meetings, debrief meetings and issuing and tracking actions to ensure outcomes are delivered.

  • -Collate and prepare CURE packs and provide support to Underwriters

  • Support the co-ordination, preparation and outcomes of ad hoc ‘mini-CUREs’ to discuss new propositions/issues either locally or with US.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Be Committed, Be Connected, Be Creative and Be Energised – these are the values we are passionate about. Understanding and embracing our values will shape your success and contribute to making Travelers Europe a great place to work.
