The Position

Location: Hybrid, Mississauga, ON (Minimum 3 days in the office)

Hours: full-time (35 hours per week)

Length: 6 months

At Roche, we believe out of the box to develop sophisticated analytics that benefit patients today and tomorrow. We are looking for a dedicated intern to join our team of imaging scientists and software engineers for an exciting and challenging internship. In this position, you will lead the exploration of innovative computer vision techniques for pathology image analysis and devise novel deep learning algorithms with potential applications in the broader healthcare regime. You will be connected with other interns from various analytics teams across the organization and work on an innovative project in digital pathology by applying advanced analytics and machine learning approaches to the company’s real-world imaging data. 

The opportunity:

  • Assists in the analysis of high-throughput biological data, such as Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data, using established computational tools and pipelines. This also includes performing quality control, preprocessing, and basic statistical analysis of biological datasets.

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of computational algorithms or scripts to process and analyze biological data.

  • Stays updated on the latest developments in computational biology, genomics, and bioinformatics through literature review. This also involves summarizing relevant research papers and contributing to the understanding of current trends in the field. Additionally, generates visualizations to aid in the interpretation of biological data and assists in creating clear and informative figures for presentations and reports.

  • Works collaboratively with team members and researchers to understand project goals and contribute effectively to ongoing research initiatives. This also involves attending team meetings and presenting updates on assigned tasks. Additionally, participates in skill-building activities, training sessions, workshops, seminars, or webinars to enhance computational biology and bioinformatics skills.

Who are you:

  • Are currently pursuing a MSc/PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Biology, Genetics, Bioengineering  or related fields. PhD (Preferred)

  • Fluency in one or more programming languages, preferentially, in Python, and one or more deep learning frameworks.

  • In-depth knowledge of machine learning and deep learning.

  • English proficiency required.
