The Technology and Innovation (T&I) Ministry supports GoA departments with information management and technology (IMT) leadership and expertise in IMT services delivery, security, and corporate investment management that enable the GoA to meet business goals and objectives.
The Data and Content Management Division uses a one government approach to information and privacy governance, decision-making and service delivery across the GoA balanced with individual client needs. This facilitates enhanced data access, collaboration, reduction in data duplication and innovation to ensure effective and efficient services across the government to provide better services to Albertans.

Role Responsibilities

Join our Data Centre of Excellence as a Data Analytics Developer and play a key role in optimizing data models and building cutting-edge data pipelines that drive business success. If you’re passionate about harnessing data to create innovative solutions and enhance analytics capabilities, we want you to apply!
In this role, reporting to the Manager of the Analytics Capability Centre, you will focus on expanding and refining our data models and pipeline architecture. You’ll leverage your expertise in data pipeline building and wrangling to enhance data systems from the ground up, determining the best strategies for implementing improvements to infrastructure and processes. Your efforts will directly contribute to optimizing data flow and collection across teams, ensuring the highest standards of data delivery.
Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Designing and maintaining data pipelines and analytics workflows, combining raw information from diverse sources to support defined business data products.
- Analyzing and organizing raw data, preparing it for prescriptive and predictive modeling, while building algorithms that deliver business value.
- Evaluating business needs, enhancing data quality, and designing analytical tools to support our data services.
- Monitoring pipeline operations, conducting complex data analysis, and collaborating with data scientists and analysts on various projects.
- Coaching and mentorship team members, fostering a client-centric approach and encouraging innovative solutions.
- Working closely with senior management to support a cultural shift toward data as a strategic asset and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications
Required:
- A related university degree (e.g., Computer Science, Business), supplemented by at least four (4) years of related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Relevant industry experience working with datatools and data platforms.
- Experience with building and optimizing data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) pipelines.
Assets:
- Familiarity ETL tools like SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Fivetran, DBT, etc.
- Familiarity with datatools and platforms, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake, Hadoop, Databricks, Azure Synapse, etc.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R
- Proficiency in SQL and experience in data modeling
- Knowledge and understanding of container technologies, like Docker and Kubernetes orchestration.
- Experience with version control systems like Git to manage codebase and collaborate with team members.
- Experience working with business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SAS, etc.
Equivalencies are:
A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience.

Notes
This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).

While this position is eligible for remote work, the successful candidate must reside in Alberta to work remotely. Occasional meetings in Edmonton may be required.
Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
