Manager, Investment Management

We are looking for a well-rounded strategy and data science professional to join our Investment Management team within the Portfolio Management unit of Nokia Technologies’ Patent Portfolio organization. The Investment Management team is responsible for driving and coordinating strategy development, investment and financial planning, as well as governance and reporting for the Patent Portfolio organization. 

The Investment Management Manager leverages internal and external data and fit-for-purpose quantitative methods (e.g. statistics, machine learning, econometrics, optimization, simulation, etc.) to support analytical investment strategy development and decision making, deliver strategic insights, and build advanced cost forecasting and tracking models for the Patent Portfolio organization. The Investment Management Manager collaborates closely with colleagues across Nokia Technologies, such as our Licensing, R&D, Strategy, and Finance teams. 

 The role requires strong hands-on experience in applying advanced quantitative methods in investment scenario modelling, fluency with financial data, and proven experience from portfolio strategy development. This role requires good understanding of patenting processes, and experience in using patent data in portfolio management and investment scenario modelling context. 

1. Patent portfolio investment strategy and strategic planning 

• Supports portfolio investment strategy development  

• Supports filing and trimming strategy development 

• Supports investment planning and strategic resource allocation decisions 

• Ensures visibility and insights into patent portfolio investments and return on investment 

• Supports strategic decision making with structured problem solving and rigorous data analysis 

• Develops high-quality decision materials and top-drawer executive level presentations 

2. Strategic decision intelligence and optimization 

• Builds fit-for-purpose analytical models to evaluate strategic options and investment scenarios 

• Develops optimization models to guide portfolio strategy and investment decisions 

• Develops advanced prescriptive analytical models to inform critical business decisions 

3. Advanced analytics for cost management 

• Builds advanced models for cost forecasting 

• Supports cost and investment tracking with advanced analytics and identifies development areas 

• M.Sc. (Research Track) or Ph.D. in Economics, or an equivalent economics skillset (Ph.D. level core courses in microeconomics and econometrics required) 

• Proven track-record in creating business relevant insights using patent data in portfolio management and investment scenario modelling context, as well as a good understanding of patenting processes, patent data, and data science tools (proven experience in using R, Python, and the Azure Databricks environment required) 

• Strong business acumen and proven capabilities in applying quantitative methods (e.g. statistics, machine learning, econometrics, simulation, optimization, etc.) to solve complex problems 

• Strong command of statistical theory and practice (e.g. sampling theory, stochastic processes, statistical forecasting, frequentist and Bayesian statistical inference, hypothesis testing, etc.) 

• Demonstrated ability to write high-quality, production-ready code (readable, well-tested, with well-designed APIs) 

• Experience from working with different data types, formats, architectures, and services 

• Proven track-record of delivering excellent results in demanding project environments 

• Strong attention to detail and ability to operate effectively at different levels of abstraction 

• Able to handle complex concepts and translate analyses into actionable recommendations 

• Ability to synthesize and summarize key findings in ways that are easy to communicate 

• Highly proficient in producing top-drawer visualization and presentations to management 

• Self-starter with the ability and drive to deliver quality deliverables on tight deadlines 

• Team player with ability and drive to independently produce quality deliverables on tight deadlines 

• Excellent written and communication skills in English
