The Opportunity
Sustainability reporting is evolving from a predominantly voluntary undertaking to a regulated requirement for companies globally. As TC Energy prepares for mandatory sustainability reporting, the Sustainability Standards, Governance and Strategy (SSG&S) team is looking for a Sustainability Data Governance Analyst to maintain the integrity of the Company’s mandatory sustainability disclosures.

Reporting to the Director, SSG&S, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting TC Energy's ability to provide accurate information that could reasonably be expected to influence decisions made by primary users of general-purpose financial reporting. This will involve developing and implementing robust data governance and disclosure processes to support alignment of sustainability reporting with emerging mandatory reporting regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

The focus will start with climate-related data and information and will eventually expand to include other financially material sustainability data and metrics. You will work closely with the Financial Reporting, Sustainability, Emissions Reporting, Environmental Governance and Internal Audit organizations.

What you’ll do

  • Oversee the roadmap to reasonable assurance for TC Energy’s greenhouse gas (GHG) Scope 1 and 2 emissions reporting

  • Develop and implement processes to improve climate-related data collection, analysis, and disclosure across the company

  • Work cross-functionally to define and build processes for gathering and reporting on climate-related cross-industry and industry-based metrics, including those described in the Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standard 2. This would include defining materiality thresholds, restatement policies, boundaries, definitions, and other key considerations

  • Align qualitative sustainability disclosures and timing with TC Energy's existing Disclosure Controls and Procedures (DC&P) process for the Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A)

  • Collaborate with the Corporate Emissions Reporting Group (CERG) and the Financial Reporting team to align GHG reporting with the company's consolidated reporting groups

  • Support the CERG team in determining an appropriate accrual process for GHG emissions data, aligned with financial reporting timing requirements

  • Manage jurisdictional reporting processes (e.g., Mexico) to align with corporate sustainability data standards and requirements

  • Evaluate jurisdictional applicability of future sustainability reporting requirements based on financial thresholds defined in the standards (ex: CSRD, California)

  • Maintain alignment between financial statement footnotes on climate-related matters and TC Energy's other climate and sustainability disclosures

  • Work with internal audit to assess controls for high-risk sustainability disclosure processes and develop solutions to close the gaps

  • Draft responses to external and internal consultations, seek feedback and rationalize differing perspectives into cohesive, accessible messaging

  • Plan and coordinate efficient and effective meetings and facilitated group sessions

  • Provide support for the development and implementation of the Air Emissions Reporting System (AERS) and Scope 3 emissions data collection and reporting

  • Prepare presentations to leadership on processes, gaps, and solutions

  • Research and stay up to date on climate science, regulations, and best practices for climate-related financial disclosures

  • Assist in the preparation of the company's climate-related financial filings, sustainability reports, and other external communications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15+ years of relevant experience

  • Strong data governance experience and a passion for cross-functional team leadership

  • Hands-on experience with GHG emissions data management and reporting

  • Knowledge and understanding of the GHG Protocol

  • Knowledge of global mandatory and voluntary sustainability reporting standards, including SASB indicators, IFRS S1/S2, ESRS

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Audit (CIA) designation, or similar certification

  • Audit and assurance background, with a strong understanding of process, controls, and high attention to detail

  • Strong analytical and data management skills, with proficiency in data governance processes and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SOX experience

  • Experience with regulatory or securities disclosures

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate technical information for diverse stakeholders

  • Passionate about working in a dynamic environment, as a self-starter and team player

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and demonstrating strong organizational and process mapping skills

  • Cross-functional collaboration experience

  • Passion for sustainability and desire to continuously learn.
