Job Summary:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has an outstanding opportunity for an independent, well-organized, and motivated individual to serve as full-time Data Analyst for the Reproductive Equity Action Lab (REAL). REAL, led by Dr. Tiffany Green (she/her), conducts innovative research that identifies the key structural inequities that hinder reproductive autonomy. Learn more about REAL here: https://real.smph.wisc.edu/. The Data Analyst will be a vital part of REAL, which is in a growth phase and implementing multiple funded projects.

The Data Analyst will support funded projects based on primary data collection and administrative and health systems databases (e.g., electronic medical records) to investigate the relationships between health/social policies, environmental factors and racial/ethnic inequities in access to reproductive healthcare (including abortion and contraception) and reproductive health outcomes.

Responsibilities:

Contributes to a research agenda set by a lead researcher by preparing data sets, analyzing them using data science techniques, and presenting the results. May work independently or as part of a team.
  • 25% Prepares data sets for analysis including cleaning/quality assurance, transformations, restructuring, and integration of multiple data sources
  • 15% Independently identifies and implements appropriate data science techniques to find data patterns and answer research questions chosen by the lead researcher including data visualization, statistical analysis, machine learning, and data mining
  • 20% Organizes and automates project steps for data preparation and analysis
  • 10% Composes and assembles reproducible workflows and reports to clearly articulate patterns to researchers and/or administrators
  • 15% Documents approaches to address research questions and contributes to the establishment of reproducible research methodologies and analysis workflows
  • 5% Remain well-informed on new approaches, innovations, standards, and best practices in statistical data analysis relevant for supporting scientific rigor
  • 5% Support and/or participate in drafting and/or review of research articles and project reports and other dissemination activities
  • 5% Provide mentorship and training support to REAL trainees

Education:

Required
Master's Degree in Statistics, Economics, Health Services Research, Psychology, Computer Science, Public Health, or related field with training in quantitative analysis is required by the start date of the position.

Preferred
Ph.D. in Statistics, Economics, Health Services Research, Psychology, Computer Science, Public Health, or related field with training in quantitative analysis.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience and demonstrated proficiency with large survey and administrative database management and data programming and analysis using statistical software program such as STATA, SAS, or R (STATA preferred).
- 2 years of demonstrated experience creating robust, well-documented software code.
- All candidates must have proven success in conducting research appropriate to their stage of career.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of ability to effectively work independently and collaboratively within a team (i.e., highly motivated, responsible).
- Demonstrated ability to consistently maintain a high level of attention to detail and demonstrate organizational skills.
- Evidence of ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written).
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Possess effective problem-solving skills.
- 2 years of experience with management and analysis of electronic medical records.
- 2 years of experience with with Qualtrics or other survey tools.
- 2 years of employment experience in reproductive health or reproductive equity research.

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

We prefer the candidate to be based in the Midwest with availability to attend in-person work activities in Madison, WI monthly. However, this is a flexible requirement. For the right candidate, we are open to a fully remote arrangement. For fully remote candidates, we require some travel for professional development, research, and team-building activities.
