The Director of Data Analytics and Visualization will lead the engineering, delivery, and support of the corporate data and analytics platform.  Reporting to the Senior Director of Corporate Applications, this experienced individual will lead a team of Data Engineers and Visualization specialists in the development, automation and management of cloud-based data capabilities and technologies in support of both the overall data strategy, architecture and roadmap and the delivery of corporate data assets and insights.  Partnering with Technology Operations, they will ensure the availability, stability, performance and scalability of data capabilities and technologies.  

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business and corporate function leaders and cultivate trusted and collaborative relationships.

  • Lead the engineering, delivery and support of data pipelines and data products.

  • Provide leadership and oversight of third-party resources and services in the design and delivery of data solutions as needed.

  • Identify opportunities and implement enhancements to data pipelines and data products.

  • Lead and mentor Data Analytics and Visualization team members.

  • Collaborate with the Enterprise Data Architecture and Enterprise Data Enablement teams on data solutions and roadmaps.

  • Ensure data solutions adhere to relevant policies, standards, procedures, and patterns.

  • Promote re-use of data assets and insights across the Division.

  • Forecast and budget data capability and technology expense and growth.

  • Work well with co-located and distributed team members and partners.

  • Demonstrate a high degree of creativity and problem-solving skills.

  • Set and implement a strategy for data warehouses and data marts, business intelligence and analytics with a focus on enhancing end-user experience through self-service solutions, speed of delivery, and high-quality results.

  • Prioritize work requests to meet business needs by assigning teammates and overseeing delivery.

  • Drive processes around business intelligence development

  • Reduce risk to our organization by implementing governance and security controls in partnership with the Information Security and Enterprise Risk teams.

  • Manage the team, including hiring and development, reviews, etc.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent work experience.

  • Experience leading a team of data and visualization engineers.

  • Hands-on experience implementing data capabilities and technologies supporting data pipelines, data integration, data transformation, analytics, reporting and modeling (e.g. AI/ML).

  • Strong understanding of engineering, implementing, and supporting data platforms and solutions in a cloud environment.

  • Deep understanding of data management and data governance principles and constructs.

  • Passion for learning new technologies and enhancing existing skills.

  • Experience in end-to-end Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) projects.

  • Experience working with key stakeholders and business leaders.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively on teams.

  • Self-starter that works well and can be a leader in a matrixed team environment.

  • Ability to adapt and respond in a rapidly evolving business environment.

  • 8+ years of related work experience.

  • Experience with PowerBI and other visualization tools.

  • Develop compelling business metrics that drives business insights and growth.

  • A story-teller using data and dashboards to tell a compelling business story and drives the right decisions.

Preferred

  • Experience engineering, implementing, and supporting data solutions in an Azure cloud environment.

  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, Snowflake and/or equivalent cloud data technologies and platforms.

  • Experience with data platforms supporting Data as a Product, Data as a Service, Data Mesh, Data Virtualization, Delta Lake, Lakehouse and/or Data Fabric.

  • Familiarity with SQL, Java, and Python.

  • Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

  • Experience creating and running 24X7 platform support models leveraging internal teammates and/or third-party services.

  • 12+ years of related work experience and 5+ years of progressive leadership experience.

  • Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Data Engineer Associate, or equivalent certification(s).

  • Experience in the insurance industry and/or basic knowledge of insurance. 

  • Experience engineering, implementing, and supporting solutions covering multiple geographies.
