Are you a Data Scientist with a passion for AI and Machine Learning? Do you envision your work making a real difference? Do you want to be part of a team that’s helping to shape the future of publishing? At Penguin Random House, we’re looking for someone like you to join our Data Science team.

As the UK’s largest publisher, we offer a unique opportunity to work with a breadth of talent and make a tangible impact. And in the data science team, your expertise won’t just be a cog in the machine; it will be a driving force behind innovative data products that change the way we do business.

Working at the forefront of data-driven decision-making in a company that champions creativity, diversity, and the power of storytelling, you’ll find a collaborative environment where your ideas are valued and your contributions are recognized.

Whether you’re working on cutting-edge foundation models to unlock the value of unstructured data, or working on nuts-and-bolts regression models to optimize our supply chain, you’ll be part of a dynamic team that’s always looking for new ways to innovate.

What you'll do:

  • Innovate: Develop reliable machine learning models to tackle crucial business challenges.
  • Transform: Explore, transform, and document datasets, collaborating with data engineers to build robust data pipelines using tools like DBT, Apache Airflow and Dagster.
  • Enhance: Work alongside team members to boost the performance and reliability of existing models, leveraging platforms like Databricks and Valohai.
  • Code: Write well-documented, scalable, testable and maintainable code that adheres to best-practice principles. Collaborate on code reviews and pair programming sessions.
  • ️ Communicate: Share insights and recommendations, translating complex data science concepts into clear, non-technical language for our business stakeholders.
  • Strategize: Provide domain-specific input to shape strategic decisions.
  • Enrich: Share insights and knowledge, and build living best practices, helping your team become the best version of itself.

What you'll bring:

  • Solid Fundamentals: Strong statistical knowledge and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts in data science, and a keen understanding of how to apply them to real-world problems.
  • Python Skills: Proficiency in Python and key data science libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, and PyTorch.
  • ML Mastery: Demonstrable experience deploying and maintaining machine learning models in production, with knowledge of explainable AI techniques and model monitoring.
  • Data Wrangling: Strong SQL and data modelling, pipeline orchestration and feature engineering skills, and experience using data visualization tools like Matplotlib, and Plotly to communicate insights.
  • ☁️ Cloud native: Familiarity with Git, cloud platforms (preferably AWS), and Linux command-line environments. Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
  • ️ Communication: Ability to present technical work in plain, lucid English and confidently share insights with non-technical audiences.

If this sounds like your next opportunity, please apply with your CV and cover letter by 23:59 on Monday 28th October 2024.

This is a hybrid role. Due to the nature of the contract, we would be seeking for the successful candidate to work on-site frequently. However, hybrid working arrangements can be discussed at offer stage.
