Role

Under general supervision, supports Recology’s data-informed sustainability initiatives and monitors companywide sustainability performance. This role gathers and analyzes data, maintains sustainability software systems, manages sustainability metrics and reporting, and supports both internal and external communications related to sustainability. This is a hybrid role.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Utilizes internal software applications to collect and track raw data, working with internal Information Technology (“IT”), Finance, and Operations teams, as well as third-party vendors and partners (i.e. verifiers, fuel vendors, utility providers, consultants, academia, strategic partnerships) to streamline and improve processes and data flow.
  • Performs data quality and verification checks and reviews data for anomalies.
  • Leads research, evaluation, and implementation of new software solutions to automate, visualize and analyze sustainability data, working closely with IT teams as needed.
  • Supports publication of the company’s sustainability report and informs communications and business development initiatives through project management, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Owns and maintains sustainability-specific software solutions to collect, calculate, and track scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions and environmentally preferable procurement data.
  • Prepares recurring reports and ad-hoc analyses related to company sustainability activity. Communicates performance with operations and executive management teams to inform Recology’s sustainability strategy and targets.
  • Monitors emerging sustainability trends, programs, and issues.
  • Represents Recology and Sustainability Team activity at internal and external functions.
  • Establishes and maintains data-related controls and relevant technical documentation.
  • Travels to Recology Operating companies as needed.
  • Performs other project support, administration, and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

  • Three or more years related experience in sustainability, data science, analytics, accounting, or related field; waste/recycling/related industry experience a plus.
  • Self-starter with high attention to detail, strong analytical skills required; strong communication ability, technical and/or copywriting experience a plus.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience performing data analysis with large, complex datasets and using data to inform and support projects and initiatives.
  • Strong MSOffice, including intermediate to advanced Excel experience required; experience with Qlik and/or relational databases a plus.
  • Working knowledge of third-party sustainability/ESG frameworks and protocols (e.g. SASB, TCFD, The Climate Registry, The GHG Protocol, SBTi).
  • Experience working with financial data a plus.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in sustainability, environmental science, data science, accounting, or related field, preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
