Airbus UpNext Internship 2025 - Turbulence predictions (m/f)

Job Description:

At Airbus UpNext, we explore technology for sustainable, autonomous and connected applications in flight. By doing so, we are actively shaping the future of the aerospace industry.

We use demonstrators as the principal means of evaluating, maturing and validating new radical technological breakthroughs. We not only integrate and test the technology but help shape the foundations for infrastructure and flight regulations, enabling Airbus in its aim for a better-connected, safer and more prosperous world.

Our eXtra Performance Wing demo will include demonstrations of gust and turbulence load alleviation.

Your mission 

Working with XWING’ teams, as Turbulence predictions for XWING Flight Tests intern, you will:

• Apply data science on the historical EDR data (sampling for flight test area, analyses by altitude, seasonality, etc.), for 2021 to 2024

• Relate EDR with flight test data gathered during X-Wing Phase-1

• Relate EDR data with levels of gust and turbulence that can be expected, and the resulting loads

• Predict the likelihood of encountering different levels of turbulence in the flight test area at different altitudes during different times of the day and year

• Propose a process for using EDR to decide on the suitability of flight testing in turbulence on a 24-hour horizon.

 

Duration: 6 months

Starting date:  January 2025 ideally , March 2025 latest

What you bring (and will be developed):

• Data Science or general engineering (aeronautical knowledge or training is a plus)

• Basic knowledge of Python

• English, intermediary level mandatory
