Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality is seeking a qualified candidate to support the Office of Process Improvement and Data Application in advancing DEQ’s mission and regulatory mandates through the implementation and management of data governance, data applications, data deliverables, and reporting. Support DEQ’s regulatory programs in developing a framework for managing data effectively and efficiently, ensuring data quality and consistency, and lifecycle management. Support DEQ in analyzing data to analyze trends and measure KPIs to inform Agency decisions. Influence the design and implement data solutions to meet DEQ’s business requirements. Provide training and support to end users on data applications. In partnership with OIS, lead the DEQ’s PIDA’s cross-functional team and end users in implementing and maintaining effective data applications, not limited to GIS, Oracle, R, and Tableau.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience and skills in the utilization of data tools to create advanced data visualizations, dashboards and reports that provide clear results that allow for sound business decisions to be made.
Experience in the development and implementation of data governance policy, and procedures.
Experience in data analytics and methodologies and ability to analyze large datasets.
Considerable knowledge of public and business administration principles and methodologies for improving organizational performance.
Ability to negotiate and garner support for agency initiatives and to build effective working relationships with diverse constituencies including internal and external data users.
Demonstrated ability to make effective formal presentations and to communicate both orally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects, data requests, analyses, and long and short-range planning principles for all data projects.
Considerable knowledge in data management practices and principles and demonstrated ability to provide data governance leadership.
Skill in the use of Microsoft 365 - Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
