As part of this evolution, we are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic for a 12-month contract role. This role can be based at either of our offices: North Sydney or Prestons. You'll have the opportunity to play a key role in our technology transformation while working with an innovative and supportive team. About the role

In this role, you will be pivotal in delivering Business Intelligence services, developing meaningful insights from data, and working closely with various stakeholders to ensure reporting solutions meet the growing needs of our business. You'll be part of a geographically diverse team, contributing to key initiatives like Profitable Volume Growth and Customer First Workstreams. Some of the key areas you will be responsible for include:

Reporting Solutions

Collaborating with business stakeholders to align on reporting requirements and insights.

Identifying gaps in the data warehouse and working with back-end developers to resolve them.

Developing, delivering, and supporting Power BI Reports, ad-hoc data extracts, data models, and data warehouse enhancements.

Providing accurate estimates for report and data development tasks.

Preparing test plans and ensuring successful execution.

Providing end-user support and training on Power BI reports.

Business Engagement

  • Working directly with all levels of the business, including senior management
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships and contribute to enhancing business effectiveness
  • Participating in knowledge-sharing across the Data and Analytics team to deepen understanding of our business and processes.
  • Resolving reporting and data issues efficiently.

Business Operations and Support

  • Investigating and resolving data, reporting, and back-end ETL issues, ensuring SLAs are met.
  • Troubleshooting and modifying reports to meet changing business requirements.
  • Ensuring all deliverables are comprehensively documented in Azure DevOps and approved by relevant stakeholders.
  • Participating in Agile rituals, including daily standups, to ensure smooth project delivery.

 

About you

Our ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years’ experience including:

  • Proven experience with Power BI dataset modelling and report design, plus Premium Features such as Pipeline deployment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Stack tools and technologies, including Fabric, Power BI, T-SQL.
  • Strong experience developing Power BI Reports, Symantec Models, Data Flows, Power Query, MDX, and DAX.
  • Expertise with Power BI third-party add-ons (e.g., Tabular Editor, ALM Toolkit).
  • Ability to implement row-level security in Power BI and understand application security models.
  • Strong analytical thinking to convert data into relevant reports and graphics.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work with clients and internal teams.

 

Bonus Skills

  • Knowledge of Azure Data Lake, Synapse, D365 FSCM/CE SynapseLink.
  • Experience with ERP/CRM systems, and business processes, particularly Dynamics 365 FSCM/CE and embedded reporting.
  • Experience in Data Warehouse Schema Design, Azure SQL Database, T-SQL, and stored procedures.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, including management, pipeline, and release management.
  • Previous experience working with geographically diverse teams.
  • Proven experience gathering and documenting both user and technical requirements.

A bachelor’s degree in information technology or related discipline, or equivalent experience plus Certifications in Power BI and/or SQL Development will be looked upon favourably.
