Who we are ...

Our primary focuses at Fraunhofer IWES are on wind energy and hydrogen technologies. Our institute is home to more than 300 scientists and employees as well as over 100 students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development at nine sites. We secure investments in technological developments through validation, shorten innovation cycles, accelerate certification procedures, and increase planning accuracy by means of innovative measurement methods.

This team is looking for you...
You will join the »Technical Reliability« group at our Hannover site. The aim of our group is to increase the reliability of wind turbines as well as to optimize their operation and maintenance (O&M). At present, the team consists of seven research associates and a number of working students. We support each other, irrespective of our projects and backgrounds. A culture of open exchange and cooperation, even beyond team boundaries and sites, is particularly important to us.

What you will do

These duties await you...
You will prepare and analyze field data gathered from wind turbine operation and maintenance. You will also model the operating and failure behavior of wind turbine components to identify faults at an early stage. Furthermore, you will carry out failure cause analysis, for individual components and the overall system, and develop methods for new data products and visualize them. In addition, you will be able to take on the communication and organization of data transfer from external parties and data management. We encourage you to extend and deepen the horizons of our group by developing and contributing your own ideas.

No two days at work are ever the same!
Here at IWES, you will get involved in project management by working on various projects and, over time, taking on the management of individual work packages and/or projects. You will submit applications for publicly funded research projects and secure new industry contracts. Do not worry, we will offer you step-by-step guidance as a team! Furthermore, you will also document your own work, compile project reports, work on publications, and present your results at specialist conferences.

What you bring to the table

What is your specialist background?
You should have completed your diploma or master’s degree Engineering, preferably with a focus on Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field. Do you have a good technical understanding of wind turbines? Are you also familiar with statistics and the analysis of data sets? Great! Do you have experience working with Matlab, Python, or another programming language on top of that? Perfect! Then you should definitely keep on reading!

Your profile is complemented by...
Perhaps you already have some experience in condition monitoring, reliability modeling or the simulation of operation and maintenance? Do you also have experience with machine learning methods? Do not worry if you do not have all the skills in your repertoire just yet though – you can get your career off to a flying start with us, too. If you do already have experience, you can expand upon it here. Here at IWES, we operate on an international level – a good command of German and English will make your day-to-day work easier.

What you can expect

How would you like to develop?
We support you on your professional journey. Whether personally, professionally, or methodically, we find the right qualification measures for you. It is also possible to be responsible for your own doctorate here. We offer you our full support! Our flextime and core time system allows you to plan your working day flexibly. In addition, you also have the option to work remotely. Not sure who can look after your children in an emergency?
