Job Title: Systems Engineer – Cell Modelling

Location: Munich, Germany (Remote work within Germany is possible, but preference for onsite availability)

Must have rights to work in Germany

Duration: 12 Months (with the possibility of extension or conversion to permanent)

Job Description: We are seeking an exceptional Systems Engineer specializing in Cell Modelling to join our cutting-edge team focused on the future of urban e-mobility. This role is a vital part of the Cell Technology team, where you will contribute to the design, development, testing, and certification of battery cell models as part of a dynamic cross-functional group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the cell modelling technology roadmap in collaboration with industry and research partners.
  • Develop and enhance battery cell performance and degradation models under various conditions using equivalent circuit and physics-based models.
  • Simplify high-fidelity cell models into efficient engineering models.
  • Conduct electrothermal simulations to support aircraft battery systems, define operational boundaries, and aid in cell screening and selection.
  • Develop algorithms and tools for cell model parameter inference and optimization based on data from tests and field performance.
  • Lead cross-functional data integration efforts to support battery digital twins.
  • Collaborate with test engineers to refine and analyze cell tests for performance validation and model calibration.
  • Create methods, tools, and processes to streamline modelling activities.
  • Engage in continuous collaboration with fellow engineers across multiple functions.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Control Engineering, Physics, Electrochemistry, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in Li-ion cell modelling.
  • Proficiency in model-based development best practices and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with cell performance indicators, modelling, and state estimation techniques.
  • Experience in designing cell testing procedures and interpreting their results.
  • 2+ years of hands-on software development experience in Python, with expertise in third-party data science libraries (e.g., pandas, PySpark).
  • Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink and advanced measurement methods like impedance spectroscopy is a plus.
  • Understanding of materials and cell design is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, with a target-driven and proactive work style.
  • Ability to navigate complex situations and bring clarity.
  • Fluent English skills are essential; fluency in German or other languages is a plus.
