About the role

The Senior Data Scientist is responsible for performing research and developing algorithms to achieve project requirements. This person will work on Agile software teams to develop robust solutions for our customers. We build physics-based, rule-based, data-driven, and machine-learning models to simulate processes and recognize patterns in drilling, completions, and geoscience operations. Senior Data Scientists work independently on projects and provide technical leadership for junior teammates.

What you'll do

  • Develop efficient and effective real-time models that lead the industry
  • Lead the development and implementation of advanced analytics solutions to address business challenges and opportunities.
  • Design and execute experiments to test hypotheses and uncover insights.
  • Analyze large, complex datasets to extract actionable insights and patterns.
  • Develop predictive models and machine learning algorithms to optimize business processes and drive decision-making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business outcomes.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in data science and analytics.
  • Conduct research on drilling, completion, and geoscience operations
  • Develop logic and algorithms using analysis of drilling, completions, and geoscience data streams, trends, and anomalies
  • Develop backend code in Python and test on local and various development environments
  • Develop, train, test, and optimize machine learning models
  • Work on an Agile software development team with product management and software developers
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve efficiencies in both Corva and customer operations
  • Provide technical leadership for junior R&D teammates including algorithm and logic development; code review, quality, and speed; and mentoring
  • Be a great teammate who is supportive and willing to help others
  • Always put accuracy first while balancing Minimum Viable Product needs with the speed of development
  • Document work and complete written reports on time and with high-quality
  • Support operations with clear procedures for new products and for customer support
  • Meet or exceed timeframes and deadlines; ensure that all priorities have clear milestones and deadlines before beginning the project
  • When on PTO ensure a backup plan is in place for tasks and responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer science, Statistics, Computational Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field
  • High proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R. or Java, and experience with data manipulation libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy).
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
  • 5+ years of experience in data science or related roles
  • Basic knowledge of drilling or completions operations is preferred
  • Strong understanding of statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms.
  • Experience working with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib).
  • Knowledge of SQL and database systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven track record of delivering impactful data-driven solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to identify anomalies and problem data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively with teams
  • Excellent analytical thinking skills
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis and devise logical, efficient solutions
  • Publications or contributions to the data science community (e.g., research papers, open-source projects).
