Job Description:

This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the quality, consistency, security, and accessibility of our data assets. The individual will lead and drive data governance and quality initiatives, and work collaboratively with data stewards, data analysts, and business team leaders to continuously improve data quality and ensure data is managed effectively.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Data governance leadership: Lead the development and implementation of the organization's data governance framework, policies, and procedures by assessing data quality, identifying gaps and inconsistencies, and developing data standards and metrics.
  • Collaboration with data stewards: Partner with data stewards to understand their data management processes and identify improvement opportunities through data profiling, quality assessments, and process mapping.
  • Facilitate communication: Foster communication and collaboration between data stewards, analysts, and business stakeholders by establishing clear channels, organizing meetings and workshops, and creating shared documentation and reporting.
  • Project oversight: Oversee data governance projects, including data quality initiatives, lineage mapping, and data dictionary development by defining scope, objectives, and timelines; assigning tasks and responsibilities; monitoring progress; and measuring outcomes against KPIs.
  • Data documentation: Collaborate with data stewards, analysts, and business teams to define and document data definitions, standards, and ownership within a data dictionary. Conduct data profiling and establish naming conventions and standards.
  • Project prioritization: Drive project prioritization for the data analyst team, ensuring alignment with data governance objectives and business needs.
  • Focus on efficiencies: Coordinate systematic and manual efforts to increase and/or maintain the highest standard of data quality.
  • Data project management: Oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of data projects, adjusting workloads as needed to maintain efficiency.
  • Monitor data integrity success: Develop and maintain data quality and data governance operational metrics and continually monitor metrics to identify potential issues.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Rapid expertise development: Must understand team and department functions, processes, and systems within 6 months of hire and become an expert within 12 months. 
  • Detail-oriented and organized: Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, and identify trends, patterns, and potential issues.
  • Effective communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, professional phone skills, and customer-oriented mindset.
  • Software application proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in ERP, CRM, and MDM applications, with the ability to adapt and excel in various software environments.
  • Product and service knowledge: Familiarity with all Vertex products and services, as well as core operational business processes (sales, service, education, & finance).
  • Data quality expertise: Subject matter expert in data quality and relevant business applications related to data integrity, management, sync, and flow between applications.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2-5 years of direct work experience in data governance, data management, data analytics, or similar areas. 
  • Preferred experience with CRM and ERP applications (e.g., Salesforce and Workday).
  • Customer-oriented work experience.
  • Proven record of paying attention to details.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
