Job Description

Internship Opportunities in Imaging Biomarker Research

At our company, are committed to be the premier, research-intensive biopharmaceutical company and are dedicated to providing leading innovations and solutions for today and the future. Our mission is to discover, develop and provide medicines and vaccines that save and improve lives around the world. We strive to transform breakthrough science into novel therapeutics and vaccines and our scientific curiosity drives us to invent solutions to some of the world's most challenging diseases. Many begin in the our research laboratories, where we push the boundaries of science with the hope and expectation that the medicines and vaccines we invent will lead to better health for society for generations to come.

In Singapore, we are located at the Biopolis, the heart of Singapore’s biomedical research community. Here, we are focused on identifying and validating new drug targets, exploring innovative therapeutic modalities and leveraging clinical studies and patient–derived material to understand biomarkers of disease or therapeutic response to increase our understanding of human biology and to drive a therapeutic pipeline to address unmet medical needs. Our state-of-the-art laboratory supports discovery biology and translational medicine and is an integral part of our company’s world-class network for drug and vaccine discovery.

As an intern within our research laboratories, you will gain the opportunity to work with talented and dedicated scientists, learn from leading industry experts, gain exposure and professional experience working for a research-driven enterprise; and use your passion, creativity, knowledge and collaboration skills to find solutions to challenging problems in your day-to-day work.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Neuroimaging Informatics Intern. The main objective of this position is to develop and validate neuroimaging analytics pipelines, with a focus on supporting the discovery of dementia biomarkers and exploring cardiometabolic disease (CMD) biomarkers related to obesity. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge brain imaging technologies, including functional MRI (fMRI), in a dynamic and interdisciplinary team. Collaboration with neuroscientists, data scientists, and clinical researchers across various therapeutic areas will be essential, as you contribute to both internal projects and external collaborations.

Neuroimaging Data Analytics for Biomarker Discovery and Validation

  • Develop and implement computational strategies for the analysis of neuroimaging data, particularly focusing on fMRI data related to dementia and obesity.
  • Employ advanced deep learning and machine learning techniques to detect and analyze neuroimaging biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease, cognitive decline, and appetite/satiety regulation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate neuroimaging data with other modalities such as genomic, proteomic, and clinical data for comprehensive biomarker discovery.
  • Explore high-throughput neuroimaging informatics pipelines to support cross-sectional and longitudinal studies.

Data Integration and Automation

  • Harmonize and preprocess multi-modal neuroimaging datasets to ensure data quality and consistency.
  • Architect and manage neuroimaging databases, integrating data from public and proprietary sources.
  • Optimize and automate neuroimaging workflows to enhance research efficiency and facilitate high-throughput analysis.

Collaborative Research and Strategic Partnerships

  • Work closely with neuroscientists, bioinformaticians, and clinical researchers to design experiments, analyze neuroimaging results, and communicate findings in scientific reports and presentations.
  • Contribute to collaborative research efforts focused on understanding the neurobiological mechanisms underlying dementia and obesity, and their potential interventions.

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD Program in Neuroscience, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in neuroimaging data analysis, particularly with functional MRI (fMRI), and experience with neuroinformatics tools and platforms.
  • Experience with machine learning and deep learning techniques applied to neuroimaging data, particularly in the context of disease detection and progression.
  • Familiarity with software engineering and programming languages such as Python and R, and experience with neuroimaging analysis libraries like SPM, FSL, or AFNI.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to integrate data from diverse neuroimaging modalities and perform complex statistical analyses.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to create and deliver presentations effectively.
  • Availability for 6 months in a full-time capacity preferred
