About the team

The Risk and Reward team is responsible for managing the end-to-end risk strategy for all business processing payments on Stripe. We are responsible for developing innovative and tailored strategies to minimize both credit and fraud risk while ensuring the best user experience on the platform. The Global team is composed of curious, driven, and analytical individuals who are passionate about using their skills to shape the future of Stripe. We partner closely with Stripe's sales, engineering, data science, product, and servicing teams to leverage existing platforms, integrate industry best practices, and develop novel solutions to evaluate and manage risk. What you’ll do

As the APAC Risk Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing and enhancing Stripe’s risk management strategies across the region. You will be the subject matter expert on the regional risk landscape, including regulatory requirements and emerging trends. Your role will involve collaborating with various teams—such as sales, product, engineering, data science, compliance, and other functions—to ensure that risk initiatives are effectively implemented and aligned across the organization. Additionally, you will build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, such as merchants, financial partners and regulators to strengthen our risk management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement tailored risk management strategies that aligns with company goals and adapts to the dynamic regulatory landscape and market conditions in various APAC countries, including designing product solutions to scalably manage risks in line with these strategies.
  • Establish region-specific risk policies and governance frameworks that reflect local nuances and comply with legal requirements.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to gather insights, improve our risk assessment methods, and ensure smooth collaboration.
  • Collaborate with growth teams to influence product roadmaps. Design and execute effective growth strategies that align with risk management objectives.
  • Design and implement robust business and operational systems and processes to ensure that risk management scales effectively with Stripe’s evolving needs.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive regional risk reports to leadership, highlighting local risk factors and developments to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness and accountability throughout the APAC organization, ensuring that all employees understand and embrace their role in effective risk management.
  • Build and nurture a diverse, high-performing risk management team with expertise in regional complexities, fostering professional growth and collaboration.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

The candidate would ideally have worked within the context of enabling cross-border money movement and/or embedded finance for businesses, and is knowledgeable of the regulatory & compliance requirements across the region. A strong candidate will be comfortable navigating highly ambiguous, complex, and cross-functional projects in fast-paced working environments.

Minimum requirements

  • At least 12 years of experience in risk management, preferably within payments or consumer banking, or in a role that demands deep expertise in payments and consumer risk issues.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing effective risk management strategies across various domains, including credit, fraud, compliance, and brand risk, particularly within the APAC region.
  • Experience building strong cross-functional partnerships with sales, product, engineering, partnerships, and legal teams, fostering collaboration and alignment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience presenting complex, strategic initiatives to senior business leaders.
  • A track record of managing a rapidly growing team in a high-growth environment, showcasing skills in recruiting, mentoring, and guiding high-performing individuals.
  • Fluency in Mandarin.

Preferred qualifications

  • Skilled at addressing ambiguous challenges and defining strategies that clarify objectives, drive alignment, and yield measurable business impact for Stripe’s users.
  • Experience in managing payments risk related to cross-border businesses.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders with varying priorities and drive creative solutions and commitment to a shared goal
  • Expertise with quantitative tools such as Python, R, or Stata

Hybrid work at Stripe

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

Pay and benefits

The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is S$264,000 - S$396,000. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
