In general, innovation and technology have delivered significant benefits for many members of society. However, there are those who are left behind, namely the very young, the marginalized, the old and the sick.  The challenge of inclusion for those left behind requires us to move beyond device focused strategies, towards an interface that we use naturally, every day. We believe that textile is that primary interface, used in clothing, coverings, carpeting and more, we wear and are surrounded by textiles universally, always. 
Such an interface could fuse data with other devices that we use periodically and data with other IoTs in the environment. People could then leverage their physical presence over their digital presence to communicate and share personal wellbeing. This could unlock healthcare that is proactive and preventative, social connectedness that is more profound, enable care distribution models to be seamless and on demand, better fitness insights, safer working environments and more. 

The vision for SKIIN -our first consumer-facing brand- is to enhance human ability through connected clothing and textiles. Skiin is in beta-phase market launch and has been recently granted Health Canada medical device license and submitted to FDA for regulatory approval in the US market.  The sensors and actuators embedded within our apparel create your Digital Identity, which will be consumed by those who matter to you - your family members, physicians, trainers, other IoT devices - without you consciously having to think about it. The line between the digital and physical world is becoming increasingly blurry and we believe textile is the next medium to bridge that gap.

Role

Myant is looking for a highly skilled Software Engineering Manager to lead our backend API development efforts, focusing on Python’s FastAPI and CI/CD with Kubernetes and GitHub Actions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software architecture, a proven track record of managing high-performing engineering teams, and a passion for creating scalable and efficient backend systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership & Team Management:
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers specializing in backend API development.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative engineering culture, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear goals and performance expectations for the team, and conduct regular performance reviews.
• Backend API Development:
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of scalable and efficient APIs using FastAPI.
  • Ensure that backend systems are reliable, performant, and aligned with business requirements and goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define API requirements and integrate with frontend and other backend services.
• CI/CD & DevOps:
  • Implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to streamline development and deployment processes.
  • Manage and configure Kubernetes clusters to ensure smooth and scalable application deployments.
  • Monitor and maintain the health of production systems, addressing any issues promptly.
• Software Architecture:
  • Design and review software architecture to ensure it meets scalability, reliability, and performance standards.
  • Provide technical leadership in architectural decisions and guide the team in implementing best practices.
  • Stay current with industry trends and technologies, applying relevant knowledge to enhance system architecture.
• Project Management:
  • Work closely with product managers and other stakeholders to define project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Manage project priorities, resource allocation, and risk assessment to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Monitor progress and provide regular updates to senior management on project status and potential issues.

Qualifications:

• Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.
• Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in a management or leadership role.
  • Proven experience with backend API development using FastAPI or similar frameworks.
  • Strong expertise in CI/CD processes, with hands-on experience using GitHub Actions and Kubernetes.
  • Extensive knowledge of software architecture principles and best practices.
• Skills:
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide engineers.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing scalable, high-performance backend systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Preferred:
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of additional programming languages or technologies relevant to backend development.
