The Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, DTU Compute, is hiring a full-time Postdoc to research and develop machine learning methods for massive, complex, dynamic, and heterogeneous graphs.

You will be part of the Section for Cognitive Systems, a dynamic and research-oriented group of scientists, technical personnel, and administrative staff. We have a broad interest in machine learning and information processing in humans and computers and a particular focus on the signals they exchange.

You will collaborate with several members from the section, including Bjørn Sand Jensen, Morten Mørup, Mikkel Nørgaard Schmidt, Finn Årup Nielsen, and external Danish partners.

The position is partly funded by the Danish Defence.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to strengthen the section’s machine learning research activities and contribute to commissioned research projects within the field. You will work with nearby colleagues in the section and with external partners in Denmark. 

Your primary tasks and duties will be to:

  • Plan and conduct machine learning research primarily focusing on graphs, including data collection/management, algorithm/model development, implementation, benchmarking, and dissemination. 
  • Manage and conduct commissioned research projects within machine learning.
  • Assist with teaching, including supervision of BSc and MSc student projects.

To qualify for the position, you must have:

  • Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of current issues and future directions within the broader area of data science, machine learning and AI.
  • Proven expert knowledge and experience in (geometric) deep learning, statistical machine learning, or Bayesian modeling/machine learning. Previous research experience with machine learning for graphs is a strong plus.
  • Excellent software engineering/programming skills (ideally in Python/PyTorch) and experience with modern MLOps.
  • A track record of publication and presentation of research results in quality journals/conferences.
  • Interest in and ability to work with external stakeholders and gain their trust in joint/commissioned research activities.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in machine learning, signal processing, data science or a related field.

Salary and terms of employment 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment between 1.5 years, subject to negotiation. The starting date is 1 January 2025 or soon after that (according to mutual agreement). The position is full-time.
