In the Faculty III: School of Economic Disciplines , VWL, Makroökonomik mit europäischem Schwerpunkt , we are looking for a researcher as of the next possible date at the following conditions:
- 50% = 19,92 hours
- Pay grade 13 TV-L
- limited for three years
The Chair of Economics, in particular Macroeconomics with a European focus, is mainly concerned with the analysis of extensive and unique data sets to answer economic questions, particularly in the areas of monetary economics, macroeconomics, regional economics and international economics. In addition to classical econometric methods, data science techniques such as web scraping, machine learning or NLP are used extensively to collect and analyze the data. Although the research is theory-based, it is usually applied and aims to provide policy-relevant insights.
Your profile:
- A very good university degree with a strong quantitative focus.
- A degree in economics is an advantage, but not a requirement.
- Experience with the econometric analysis of large microdata sets, the application of methods from the field of artificial intelligence for economic analysis and/or newer methods for collecting and evaluating your own data is desirable; the willingness to acquire these skills if they are lacking or to further develop existing experience is expected.
- Strong IT skills, IT knowledge in the area of database management and/or network and system administration are advantageous.
- Experience in a programming language relevant to data collection and/or analysis (in particular Julia, Python or R) is advantageous; willingness to acquire these skills if lacking or to further develop existing experience is expected.
- Strong analytical thinking skills and the willingness and ability to deal with changing and complex issues.
- Very good knowledge of English.
- Willingness and ability to work independently.
Your tasks:
- Collaboration in the research focus “From Micro to Macro: Using (Consumer) Micro Data for Macroeconomic Analysis”, which centers on the analysis of very extensive microdata (in particular scanner data) from consumers to answer macroeconomic questions.
- Support for the professorship in national and international research projects.
- Involvement in teaching (independent holding of tutorials and exercises (2 semester hours per week), support in supervising seminar and final theses as well as correcting exams)
- Involvement in the area of academic self-administration.
