As our global footprint continues to spread across the world, we are looking for an Associate Data Scientist to join our team in Chicago, IL or Northbrook, IL.

What you’ll learn & achieve:

  • Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis.
  • Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear manner.
  • Analyze large, complex datasets to extract insights and decide on the appropriate technique.
  • Selecting features, building and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques.
  • Data mining using state-of-the-art methods.
  • Use data modelling and evaluation strategy to find patterns and predict unseen instances.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

  • Total Rewards: All employees at UL Solutions are eligible for annual bonus compensation.  The target for this position is 5% of the base salary offered. Employees are eligible for health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental & financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country, for the relevant position level.  We also provide employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours). 

What makes you a great fit:

  • Be completing your final year of your undergraduate degree in: Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science or related field.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree prior to the intended full time start date
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a results-oriented, challenging environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development. Experience querying databases and using statistical and computer languages.
  • Experience using statistical computer languages to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc..) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
  • Python coding skills and problem-solving, good analytical & communication skills.
  • Ability to articulate an idea with strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Work as part of a small team, sharing ideas and contributing to the strategic goals.
  • Must have the indefinite right to work in the United States.
