Why this role is important to us

Global Analytics and BI Lead serving as a pivotal figure in our organization, overseeing and enhancing data analytics and business intelligence (BI) operations on a global scale. This role involves handling strategic requests from the EU and eastern United States, while also mentoring and developing our analytics and data team based in India. The position requires collaboration with teams across GlobalLink's global locations, including APAC, to establish and standardize best practices in analytics, data and BI.  Currently, BI team have been primarily focused on Currenex. New role will expand to be GlobalLink-centric and focus on global growth initiatives especially in areas like APAC.

What you will be responsible for

Global Coverage and Strategy: Manage and respond to data and analytics requests from the EU, United States and APAC ensuring alignment with global strategies and business objectives.

  • Team Leadership: Mentor and guide the growing analytics and data teams in EU, North America and India, focusing on skills development and strategic capability enhancement.
  • Cross Regional Liaison: Act as a key point of contact between eastern Canada and the analytics teams across EU, North America and India, fostering collaboration and sharing of best practices.
  • Strategic Initiatives: Define and lead strategic initiatives for data and analytics, driving technical solutions that support the organization's growth objectives.
  • Standardization And Best Practices: Develop and implement standardized analytics and BI best practices across all global locations ensuring consistency and excellence in analytics applications.
  • Technical Solutions: Oversee the creation and optimization of analytics and BI applications with a focus on the GlobalLink product line and broader strategic needs.

Education & Preferred qualifications

1. Core Power BI Skills

  • Report Development & Visualization:
    • Proficiency in creating and designing reports and dashboards in Power BI, including advanced visualizations, filters, slicers, and drill-through reports.
    • Expertise in data storytelling and designing intuitive, user-friendly reports based on business requirements.
  • Data Modeling:
    • Strong skills in creating and managing data models in Power BI, including defining relationships, hierarchies, and measures.
    • Experience in building both star and snowflake schemas for analytical workloads.
  • DAX (Data Analysis Expressions):
    • Advanced knowledge of DAX for building calculated columns, measures, and aggregations to create complex analytical insights.
  • Power Query (M Language):
    • Expertise in Power Query for data preparation, data transformation, and loading (ETL processes) using the M language.
  • Performance Optimization:
    • Experience in optimizing reports for performance, including reducing report load time and improving data refresh efficiency.
  • Security & Governance:
    • Knowledge of role-based security in Power BI, data security, row-level security (RLS), and managing permissions within Power BI service.
    • Familiarity with setting up workspaces, managing sharing options, and understanding compliance best practices for global teams.

2. Migration Experience

  • Experience Migrating BI Tools to Power BI:
    • Hands-on experience migrating from other BI tools like Tableau, Qlik, or SAP BusinessObjects to Power BI.
    • Ensuring that data models, reports, and dashboards are efficiently transitioned without loss of business functionality.
    • Knowledge of challenges and solutions during BI tool migrations.

3. Training & Mentoring Skills

  • Mentorship & Training:
    • Ability to train teams in Power BI best practices, both technical (e.g., DAX, data modeling) and design-focused (e.g., visualization best practices).
    • Experience leading workshops and creating learning materials to upskill global teams.
    • Proficiency in communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Documentation:
    • Expertise in creating detailed documentation for best practices, data governance policies, and user guides.

4. Technical Skills & Tools

  • Database Skills:
    • SQL: Intermediate to advanced SQL skills for querying data from databases, optimizing queries, and creating views for Power BI.
    • Data Warehousing: Experience with data warehouse architecture and working with large datasets from data warehouses.
    • Databricks Data Platform: Familiarity with Databricks Data Lake, and Databrick SQL Database for cloud-based Power BI solutions.
  • Other BI Tools:
    • Proficiency with other BI platforms like Tableau, Qlik, SAP BusinessObjects, or MicroStrategy, particularly in comparison and migration to Power BI.
  • Cloud Technologies:
    • Experience in working with cloud platforms, particularly Databricks and AWS, for data storage, analytics, and connecting to Power BI.
    • Knowledge of Power BI Service and deployment pipelines for publishing reports and managing cloud-based Power BI solutions.
  • Programming Skills:
    • Python and R for advanced analytics, statistical modeling, and integration with Power BI for custom visualizations or machine learning models.
    • PowerShell for scripting and automating Power BI tasks, such as dataset refreshes and report updates.

5. Business Intelligence Best Practices

  • BI Strategy:
    • Knowledge of BI best practices, governance, and the ability to align Power BI solutions with broader BI strategy.
    • Experience in implementing BI governance policies and performance management across different BI platforms.
  • Data Integration:
    • Proficiency in integrating data from diverse sources (databases, APIs, Excel, cloud platforms) and maintaining data quality.
    • Experience with API Integrations to pull external data into Power BI.

6. Soft Skills

  • Communication:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with business stakeholders and technical teams globally.
  • Leadership:
    • Ability to lead Power BI initiatives, including project planning, stakeholder management, and ensuring timely delivery of BI projects.
