About LeydenJar

LeydenJar is a high-tech company, developing pure silicone anodes for a lithium-ion battery that will change the world. We are proud that, here at LeydenJar, we:

• boost Li-ion battery energy density by 70% by using 10x thinner anodes
• improved cycle life to >450
• achieved fast charging to 60% in under 10 min!

We are currently still in an R&D phase, but we are ready to start the actual production of anode foil. LeydenJar Plant One will open in 2026.

About the job

As a Machine Learning/Data Science Intern in the Silicon R&D Team, you will play a key role in the development of a digital twin for the production of pure silicon anodes using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). Specifically, you will preprocess machine-sensor data and train machine learning models to predict the product properties and identify production anomalies in real-time. Therefore, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of (data) scientists and engineers, while presenting regular updates on your progress.

Your primary location can be in Leiden or Eindhoven and it is acceptable to work remotely for one day a week. The duration of the internship would be a minimum of 6 months and must be required by your university. 

Requirements

About you:

• You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or similar).
  
• You are enrolled in a university in the Netherlands and need to complete an internship as part of your program.
  
• You have prior experience in programming and machine learning, ideally with Python.
  
• You have experience with SQL and GIT or are willing to learn
  
• You have fluent English reading and writing skills
  
• You have a strong sense of curiosity and enjoy identifying the root cause of problems
  
• Bonus points for interest in the energy transition and novel battery technologies
