Data Engineering Specialist

   

Salary: National ranging from £67,100 to £80,000 and London from £73,700 to £89,000

The team/department  

The Data Strategy & Services department drives the FCA’s Data Strategy by enhancing the value of data through data management, governance and analysis activities and providing central co-ordination of all data-related activities. As part of the Data, Technology & Innovation (DTI) Division, we are leading the FCA in harnessing the power of data and advanced analytics to transform financial regulation.

What you will be doing (the role)  

  • Apply your technical specialist knowledge to design and implement the Data Engineering Service within Data Strategy & Services in line with industry best practice

  • Bring together data engineering resource from across the directorate to form a Hub & Spoke model to support the delivery of data programmes across the directorate and the wider FCA

  • Define the skills and capabilities required to deliver the Data Engineering Service and ensure the development needs of the team are identify and fulfilled as required

  • Promote the design and delivery of repeatable data pipelines, maximising reuse and minimising technical debt whilst establishing robust processes for the ongoing operation and maintenance of solutions

  • Oversee the transition of projects to business-as-usual, ensuring the deployment of quality assured solutions are supported by an appropriate service arrangement

  • Advise the department’s leadership team to help deliver and promote the FCA’s Data Roadmap, ensuring that externally the FCA is represented to a high standard

The skills and experience you will have  

    

Minimum

  • Experience in establishing and/or transforming a Data Engineering Service within a large organisation to industry best practice

  • Effective at leading a sizeable team of data engineers to deliver quality data products at pace and in line with business requirements

  • Experience in developing data engineering products that maximise reuse and minimising technical debt

  

Essential  

  • Ability to articulate technical concepts and content for internal stakeholders as well as national and/or international engagements

  • Think strategically, contributing to both team-level as well as departmental-wide priorities

  • Strong people management skills to work with a range of skillsets, influencing and delivering credible developments

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail to meet a range of commitments, to deadlines

  • Problem-solve, constructively question the status quo, keep an open mind, and develop innovative solutions

  • Effective team working skills, encouraging a collaborative approach to decision making and problem solving when appropriate

The assessment process consists of an initial screening call with one our Recruitment Partners.  If successful, you will be invited to attend a first stage competency-based interview. The final stage will include a technical case study and competency-based questions.
