The Company
For nearly four decades, BCLC has delivered exceptional gambling entertainment for British Columbians. To fulfill our social purpose we have a vision to revolutionize gambling entertainment through engaging experiences that build and benefit communities. We operate national and provincial lotteries in partnership with 3500 retail partners, provide the games, technology & oversight to 37 brick & mortar casinos, and operate a safe secure and 100% legal online gambling presence PlayNow.com. In our recently completed fiscal year, BCLC generated a record $1.5 billion in net income to the Province of B.C. to support First Nations, host local governments, health care, education and community programs across the province.
The Team
The Data Services team designs, builds and maintains the infrastructure that allows BCLC to collect, store, and analyze large volumes of data. They work on creating data pipelines that transform raw data into a usable format for data scientists and analysts to conduct advanced analytics for BCLC. In essence, data integration specialists lay the groundwork for data-driven decision-making by ensuring that data is accessible, reliable, and ready for analysis.
The team is part of our Business Technology (BT) department, which is the backbone of our organization, managing technology infrastructure, providing technical support, ensuring cybersecurity, and driving innovation. We administer systems, lead tech projects, and manage data to ensure smooth operations and strategic growth. Our mission is to leverage technology to enhance efficiency, protect data, and support the organization’s goals.
The Role
As a Data Integration Specialist 3, you will design, development, and maintain BCLC’s data integration solutions. Your responsibilities include developing ETL workflows (ensuring data quality), supporting and administering the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) platforms, and collaborating with other Data Integration Specialists, Data analysts and management to meet data requirements. This role requires a thorough understanding of data integration concepts, SQL, strong problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn, research and grow in a fast-paced environment. This position may also involve being scheduled for paid standby on a rotation outside of business hours, ensuring 24/7 support.
What you will accomplish
- Data Integration: Develop and implement data integration processes to combine data from multiple sources into a unified datasets using data integration toolsets.
- ETL Processes: Create and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) workflows to ensure data is accurately and efficiently processed.
- Data Quality: Monitor and improve data quality by identifying and resolving data inconsistencies and errors.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Data Integration Specialists, Data analysts and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
- Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of data integration processes and workflows.
- Learning and Research: Continuously learn and apply new technologies and best practices in data integration management.
What will make you successful
- You have a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
- You have at least one data related technical certificate, such as Microsoft Azure Data Engineer, Oracle Certified Professional, IBM Certified Administrator, AWS (Amazon Web Services) Big Data Specialty, or other professional certifications.
- You have 3 to 5 years of experience in IT, with at least 2 of those years including experience in Data Integration tools, data lifecycle, pipelines, ingestion, manipulation, security, and quality.
- You have experience in manipulation raw data from source systems, through data warehouses or data lakes, through to usable consumption by business intelligence teams.
- You have an excellent knowledge of SQL.
- You have excellent knowledge in at least one major warehousing database (Exadata, DB2, MS SQL, Snowflake, etc)
- You can write technical documentation, including reports and procedures.
- You have a passion for making things better and improving processes and systems.

- You have worked in an agile atmosphere before.
- You understand the B.C. gaming industry.
- You understand advanced data analytics and data modelling.
- You have worked in a cloud-first environment before and understand cloud infrastructure.
- You can effectively communicate complex IT solutions to non-technical people.
- Microsoft office doesn’t scare you, you can utilize Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
