  • Base Salary $108,557 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

As a Data Scientist at the Sydney Informatics Hub (SIH), you will support research across all faculties of the University through a professional data science and AI consulting service model of project delivery. You will leverage your experience to apply, advise in the use of, develop and implement data science algorithms and machine learning methods, software tools and data engineering foundations to support research outcomes in science, engineering, health, architecture, law, business and the humanities and arts.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work in a dynamic and collaborative team reporting to the Data Science Group Lead

  • provide data science support for research projects across the university, involving guidance on and and technical contributions to project design, data extraction and cleaning, modelling, visualization and reporting of results, including as part of academic manuscripts and grant applications

  • manage the delivery of data science, analytics and AI projects

  • support digital skills uplift in the university research communities, including by contributing to the delivery of SIH’s training program under the guidance of the Data Science Trainer

  • work collaboratively with other parts of Sydney Informatics Hub to build and develop an engineering and entrepreneurial culture in the support of data science across the university

About you

  • master’s degree or above in a quantitative discipline coupled with relevant experience; PhD preferred

  • experience in the application of data science, statistical modelling, and machine learning technologies to a variety of complex data sets

  • working knowledge of modern data-centric programming languages including Python/R and Unix, and data management and version control tools such as git

  • demonstrated experience in eliciting user requirements through consultation and problem solving to design solutions that meet time constraints

  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills

  • good entrepreneurial spirit, showing a willingness and enthusiasm to take SIH results to a wider community.
