Postdoctoral Fellow, Computer Science
New Orleans, LA
Tulane University
Tulane University is a comprehensive research university in New Orleans, Louisiana. Tulanians see challenges as opportunities, and strive to improve the lives of others in our own community and around the globe.Description
The Department of Computer Science at Tulane University has an immediate new opening for a full-time postdoctoral fellow. The position will commence at an agreed upon start date and initially corresponds to a one-year appointment, renewable for up to two years.
The successful applicant will work with Prof. Nicholas Mattei and the Tulane Data & Artificial Intelligence Lab (TUDAI). The applicant is expected to join the lab and work on research involving the theory and practice of artificial intelligence, using tools from algorithm design, game theory, machine learning, data science, and also exploring the impact of these technologies on society. Applicants should be motivated to both join existing projects as well as propose new opportunities and directions. The successful applicant will work with Prof. Mattei as well as graduate and undergraduate students in the lab.
The research in the lab is motivated by creating new systems and technologies and by educating others about the possibilities and opportunities of computer science. The work leverages theory, data, and experiments to create novel algorithms, mechanisms, and systems that enable and support autonomous agents and/or humans to make better decisions both individually and in groups. The goal of the lab is to advance the state of the art in algorithms and complexity; game theory and computational social choice; data analytics, data mining, and machine learning; and preference reasoning. Current projects include building new algorithms and systems for reasoning with preferences and constraints; novel methods and mechanisms for individual and group decision making; integrating background knowledge into algorithms for decisions and recommendations; allocation and mechanism design; as well as studying the ethics and social ramifications of these systems in the real world.
Funding for this position comes from Tulane University School of Science and Engineering.
